Hi,
I've done a presentation about OE at last years LinuxTag. I always
license my stuff in a way that other people can reuse it. However making
use of this offer is difficult if you have no way to find the
presentation somewhere.

I thought that it would be very helpful for OE if we would maintain
presentations about our project in the repository. This allows you to
use the idea for your own presentation and safe some time.

As such I created a folder contrib/presentations and put my slides from
2008 in.

I also found a nice CC-BY-SA licensed presentation here[0] which I
updated with information from 2009 and also put into the repository.

Would be cool if you could also share your presentations (in source form
please) if they are CC-BY-SA or similar.

If you fear the repo becomes to crowded with these things than lets find
a different solution.

I did a presentation on OE for the local LUG and wrote some material
for it, but it is in italian, would it be interesting anyway?

I still have to put a licence on it, but it will probably be either
CC-BY-SA or CC-BY

I thought about this, too. IMO it should go in. The whole issues of
putting the presentations in is fostering reuse. And I think italian
people that want to do have base for their equally italian presentation
will find yours very helpful. :)

Free licensing is a requirement (no -NC please).

Perhaps you put it into an "it" folder inside presentations. So we adopt
the practice of putting non-english stuff into special folders.

Yes that's a good idea...It could be very helpful for me(If I have to do
a presentation about oe)...specially because I do not speak perfectly
Italian yet...
(Maybe I could have done one at the openmoko meeting in Milan but I
couldn't go to it because it was at the same time than my computer
science courses...so maybe in another occasion...)

Anyway. I don't understand itialian but your slides look like you argue
that an embedded system has certain system parameters like RAM, storage,
CPU speeds that are much lower to what you expect from a desktop
machine. While this may be true for some time you are always risking
that next years' technology catches up with your assumptions very quickly.

Just think about the Sheeva CPU which supports clockspeed up to 1.2GHz,
or the OMAP4 which will comes with 2 CPU cores.

A better way to argue is IMO the great integration an embedded system
provides. The chip that makes up the system often contains various
controllers for e.g. ethernet, wireless, sound, lcd, bluetooth, ...
Often there is also a graphics core and a DSP added.

And while having all these shiny stuff in they consume a fraction of the
power a desktop CPU does.

That is at least the way I would introduce people to the embedded world. :)

Yes, but as i said, it's a presentation of 2007 ...
and was an introduction to Embedded Linux and OE, for in high scool students 
and fresh linux users.
Moreover, most ARM processor was under 300MHz in 2007
