Hi All,

Via the Linux Foundation and Grant L. mentoring help, I will be working on
OE to
improve xilinx platforms support and adding Microblaze arch support;

Our Gsoc work aims tree areas
1. Support most xilinx target platforms
2. Add microblaze arch support
3. Improve software/hardware co-design work flow

Over the lasts moths I've been working on xilinx ml507 board support
to the point that been able to run xfce46 in this platform, some patches
are still queued in oe mailing list,  and we want to extend this
improvements
to other xilinx boards. Some descriptions of my work can be found at my blog
[1].

I already start with microblaze support [2], an encounter that I will
be fighting
with autotools hell this summer :); Running `bitbake task-base` it reachs
the point
to start cross-compiling and it fails due that config scripts don't have
target
definitions for microblaze, see error log at [3];forgive my autotools lack
of expertise
but where do I need to look to add target information for microblaze.

Please take a look at
http://wiki.openembedded.org/index.php/Commit_log_example and rework the
first 5 patches please.  And you can incorproate Koen's comment (and
your subsequent patch) to bump PR into one commit.

And it's often helpful to pop into #oe on irc.freenode.net as there's
often someone around that can help out.

I have an ml403 here I can test stuff on. I don't have access to the EDK 
though :(

Hello,

I'm a student and I want to participate in Google Summer of Code (Gsoc)
in project related to Linux kernel development.

I've read that kernelnewbies is one of Gsoc project groups [1]. So I
want to know what criteria should I fit to be good enough for taking
part in Gsoc in kernel development project?

The problem with kernel projects in GSoC is that they almost never lend
themselves to good projects.  There have been exceptions in the past,
but note that you are going to have to provide your own proposals for a
project, there will probably not be any kernel projects created by
anyone else for people to wish to take on.

Do you have something in mind that you wish to work on that might be a
good project proposal?

Unfortunately, I don't have particular project ideas. But I'm interested
in memory management and device drivers. 

My kernel programming experience is limited with academic needs and I
want to improve my skills. That's why I want to take part in Gsoc.

Hello Maksym,

The old i386 and x86_64 archs where unificated and called x86 to
reduce code duplication. So basically they are the same.

Also uml (user mode linux) doesn't work on many architectures.
Actually I've started porting it to PowerPC...

That's a _huge_ range of interests :)

There are plenty of things you can do today, without needing GSoC to
improve your skills with working in the kernel.  See the kernelnewbies
wiki for lots of ideas and suggestions on this.
