Hi,

is it possible to see more than 100 lines for moderation mails? It's
hard to determine if I can moderate a message through if I see no
content :-(

Thanks,
Florian

It would actually be nice if the message to be moderated was included as
a mime attachment. That way the MUA will be able to display the message
properly, even if it is base64 encoded or otherwise hard to read in
source form.

This has been implemented in version control and I've been using it for
about 6 months so I am confident it is fairly solid. If you would like
download the current sources and help test it, I would certainly welcome
the help.

I'm also hoping someone will be able to do a code review of the changes.
I was hoping Mads or Morten might have time, but I think they are just
too busy. Might either of you be able to help?

The relevant changes are those from "Arbitrary headers in listtexts"
(b72bcb7e08a2) through to "Richer MIME list texts with inline messages"
(32d3f7e3b523).

Cheers,

Ben.

I hope this is optional then (I wouldn't really like it).

It is all done in the list texts, so you can use MIME ones or non-MIME
ones (or any combination) as you wish.

Ben.

happy to test it out, of course. Any patch available for the Ubuntu
10.04 version of mlmmj?

I doubt it, Florian. The changes have got into Mlmmj's version control,
but I don't expect they've got anywhere else yet (they haven't even made
it into an Mlmmj release yet).

Would you be able to download and compile it yourself? You'll need
Mercurial and general development stuff installed (compiler, C library
development headers, GNU autotools), but it should be pretty easy. It
should go something like this (it will create a directory mlmmj in the
current directory):

$ hg clone http://mlmmj.org/mlmmj
$ cd mlmmj
$ autoreconf -if
$ ./configure
$ make
$ make install

You might need/want to give a --prefix argument to configure.

And/or you might prefer to copy the binaries into place manually rather
than using make install, for added control.

The most likely thing to be different in your distro's Mlmmj package to
the official sources is the mlmmj-make-ml.sh script. You might like to
omit that from your installation.

Ben.

That should have been

$ hg clone http://mlmmj.org/hg/mlmmj

I accidentally omitted the /hg before.

Ben.

Ubuntu's package is the exact same one as we have in Debian, on which
I'm working on.

Hum... Still mercurial. If we had a Git support, I would have been able
to give instructions on how to build an experimental package with few
git and git-buildpackage commands... What? I'm being a pain to ask
AGAIN? Ok, I shut my big mouth then! :)

BTW, I would recommend against what you wrote above in an Ubuntu
environment, as deb packages are a way better than just using "make
install" blindly. Maybe best option may well be to simply create a new
.orig.tar.gz out of the cloned folder, copy the debian folder (taken
from the latest release in Debian or Ubuntu) into the cloned folder,
then do dpkg-buildpackage.

That's one thing I always find annoying with MLMMJ. Why are all scripts
postfixed with ".sh"? Look into your distribution files, no scripts are
like that. Using just "mlmmj-make-ml" (without the ".sh") directly into
your source would be a wise change, IMHO. If you didn't know, in Debian,
we had to do that change, because having the ".sh" extension is against
the policy of Debian. What do you think?

Thomas

You may be interested in git-remote-hg. I've been watching with great
interest, as it promises to make interop much less painful:

  http://github.com/SRabbelier/git/tree/remote-hg/git_remote_helpers/hg/

You'll be able to use git to clone from an hg repo in exactly the same way
as you can clone from a git repo.

The other direction, using mercurial to work on git projects, already exists
in the form of hg-git, but this is quite slow and is the 'wrong' direction
for me too.

Best wishes,

Chris.

Good to have somebody who knows.

I'm a bit of a 'grass roots' man, so I wouldn't recommend *against* a
standard ./configure && make approach, but I would too recommend Thomas'
approach. And once we have a git mirror set up (it hasn't been
forgotten!) he'll be able to give his even groovier instructions. (I'll
be using hg-git, as that is the right direction for me, of course. I
don't know whether git-remote-hg will do a lossless conversion like
hg-git does, or one compatible with hg-git's conversion, but that is
something to keep an eye on, too.)

There's only one, isn't there (asks the maintainer, who probably should
know...)? I agree, it is unconventional for a script designed to be run
by a user. Generally only scripts used as intermediate steps in a build,
or something like that, that are generally sourced, not executed, have
the .sh extension. I don't mind changing it, though will keep a symlink
for a while for compatibility. Likewise with mlmmj-receive. I've got to
find that patch someone made for that.

Ben.

I think I forgot to explain why I don't like it, so let me explain.

In Debian, we are *forced* by the policy to remove the .sh extension (I
do not want to discuss if it's a good policy or not, it's like that,
that's it). In other OSes like FreeBSD and others, you might have some
more loose policy, meaning that the .sh extension will be there.

As a result, in FreeBSD, we have .sh for all scripts, while in Debian we
don't. For someone that wishes to support both OSes (like we do), it's
painful, and I would be glad if that could be avoided.

Thomas

That's me: I've been carrying this patch locally for years and I'm happy to
rebase it onto the current version of mlmmj if you'd like a clean version
for upstream. I also fix the spelling of the word 'voodoo' throughout the
code, which irked me too.

Cheers,

Chris.

I'd love one against the current state of the tree in version control,
if you could manage it, Chris. Having the symlink in there is important
for compatibility; I seem to remember you included that in the last
version you emailed.

I just remembered I could enable archive downloads, too, so it's
possible now to get a .tar.gz or .tar.bz2 of the current state of the
tree from mlmmj.org/hg/mlmmj by clicking the appropriate link, if you
don't want to use hg. I would recommend using hg, though, of course, as
you'll be able to keep up-to-date more easily then.

Smiles,

Ben.

Subject: [PATCH] Spelling fixes for 'receive' and 'voodoo'

Correct all instances of 'recieve' and 'voodo' to 'receive' and 'voodoo'
throughout the code and documentation, leaving a symlink in place for the
old mlmmj-recieve binary name.
