[lm-sensors] asus_atk0110 causes mouse and keyboard freeze in

I know there have been some discussions on this matter with this driver 
previously but it would seem that in this kernel version the problem if 
it had been fixed in any earlier versions, has returned. I have clearly 
pinpointed this to be the problem. No matter what else is set in the 
bios, if this module gets loaded and is turned on in the bios (Asus 
Utilities, if 3rd party utilities are chosen there is no asus Hardware 
monitoring support), the mouse and keyboard WILL freeze. Blacklisting 
the module is the simplest way to get around the freezing. Overclocking 
doesn't have anything to do with it either. I have run it both 
overclocked and normal, no difference. Icore temp sensors work perfectly 
but only give cpu temps. What if anything can I do to try to help you 
debug this?

It was never debugged actually; the tester reported lockups even
without the module loaded...

Only keyboard and mouse are involved or is the whole system locked up?
Can you access the PC using the network?

If you have network access I'll think something :)
Are you able to compile a patched kernel?

Some information on the web indicates that the problem may be fixed by
updating the Asus BIOS to the latest version. This supposedly helped on
ASUS P7P55D-E Pro and ASUS P5K Pro MB.
Someone else suggested to add "acpi=force irqpoll" to the linux command
line.

Interesting :) My suspicion is that the syncronization with the EC is
going bad (somehow).

this does nothing more than make the system slow and unusable, but on 
the other hand, the mouse and keyboard don't freeze.

irqpoll it's just a band aid; can you access the machine using the
network (e.g. ssh)?

Ok, excellent. When the keyboard freezes ssh into the machine and take
a snapshot of /proc/interrupts, then press a few keys and take another
snapshot.
Please also send me the dmesg (after the lock up).

Are you able to compile a custom kernel?

I too have a P7P55D. While I do not normally use atk0110, I decided to 
build it (2.6.37), load it on a system that had a few days of uptime and 
bang! keyboard and mouse were locked in 7 seconds.

I'm attaching a patched version of the monitoring method.
Boot the kernel with ACPI_CUSTOM_METHOD enabled and do *not* load
asus_atk0110; load the override with:
cat DSDT.aml > /sys/kernel/debug/acpi/custom_method
If everything looks good then try asus_atk0110 and see if it's stable.
If it still locks up the machine I'll have to try a different
approach...

Note that the asus_atk0110 driver will autoload on most systems which
need it thanks to the module alias, so if you don't want this to
happen, you'll have to blacklist the driver
in /etc/modprobe.d/something.
