Hi,
i saw recently that work is being done towards supporting CDMA
devices. Here in India we use the TATA photon brand USB dongle a lot.
The devices are generally Huawei AC1261 and AC1260. Has anyone worked
in the direction of adding support for this. This will potentially
make the MeeGo Netbook UX immensely usable in India atleast.

Yes, we are actively working on adding CDMA support into ofono.
Currently, the devices we used for testing are two Nokia CDMA devices
listed in our contributions. We do not have plan to support other CDMA
devices yet but if the two USB dongles you mentioned offered more
functionalities (e.g., sending/receive SMS in PDU format), we would like
to look into that. Could you please send us the API reference manual for
the two USB dongles?

We here at WindRiver have been working on a dual-mode modem (GSM/CDMA via
active standby) which also handles SMS rx/tx in PDU format and that we
would also like to contribute to oFono. Similarly, we'll be making an API
reference for this modem available here shortly, as we would like to discuss
aspects of its operation so it's a good fit with oFono..

While we now have this Qualcomm device network operational running Meego 1.1 with a modified oFono 0.34 branch, we are continuing with its development and merging in more recent oFono changesets into our internal builds. Consequently, we can provide some test feedback but as yet this device is not commercially available at present. As a result, there are limitations on specific details that we can provide, for example, proprietary vs. the device's standardized CDMA/GSM command interfaces. However, we will attempt to provide the details you require around our most recent SMS-PDU implementation when we send out our API reference shortly..
That said I can think of several aspects to help address the above and that we may want to discuss here, namely:
1) Since this device has dual radios operating in active/standby mode, the use of distinct virtual TTYs for serperate GSM & CDMA signalling that are then multiplexed into a common physical interface and
2) A "shim" layer within this common physical interface which allows proprietary commands to be "externalize" where appropriate while also correctly propagating dual-mode baseband/radio state back to the oFono stack.
While these aspects are obviously driver specific we think they are interesting to start with as they represent various trends moving forward and we would value getting people's input..
