Hi,
is it possible to mount a CIFS network share on first attempt of access
instead of mounting it on boot by /etc/fstab?
Regards,
Benedikt

Automount may do what you want, but also consider configuring with
DFS. Mount to a top level directory at boot time, but to access the
other shares - configure DFS on the server to put links to the other
network shares that you want as subdirectories. Implicit mounts
(tree connections) to those other shares won't be done until they are
first accessed.
