Hey gang,
In hacking together a package (ebuild) for Gentoo, two issues
complicated what should otherwise have been a trivial update.
1) There are two release tarballs for the version. The first of these
was pointed to by default when I made my initial pass-- assumption was
that the "powertop-2.6.1.tar.gz" would be hosted on the server. I was
right. However, that tarball resulted in a broken build.
https://01.org/sites/default/files/downloads/powertop/powertop-2.6.1.tar.gz
https://01.org/sites/default/files/downloads/powertop/powertop-2.6.1.tar_0.gz
2) Further, the second tarball URL (found on 01.org mousing over links)
ends in "tar_0.gz", which breaks with filename convention and also
breaks Gentoo's out-of-the-box 'unpack' packaging function.
Are there any plans to remedy this?
Cheers and thanks

I'll work with Alexandra to get a good release out, probably on Monday

2.6 is in gentoo already (since the day of release) and the fixes in
2.6.1 were pretty minor so I didn't bother to package it. If upstream
wants to release a working 2.6.2 tarball or something that's great.
It keeps occurring so I feel inclined to mention it, please run make
clean first.
Thanks,
Zero

All,
Please excuse the trashing the posted tar file(s) created.
There was a problem with the web services that didn't allow to remove an
erroneous tar I uploaded, it set a side the correct tar with a different
name breaking all conventions.
I worked today with the 01.org team to fix the problem. The correct
release tar ball is updated now. I didn't spin a new version since the
tar file was correct.
Joe, thank you for reporting the issue. Thank all for the Best Known
Methods to create the release. Hopefully next release will go smoother.
Regards,
Alexandra.
