I use ":set shiftwidth=4 expandtab" and c-indent mode.

Quick googling for "vim four spaces" suggests the following alternatives:

* ":set tabstop=8 expandtab shiftwidth=4 softtabstop=4"

* "set tabstop=8 softtabstop=0 expandtab shiftwidth=4 smarttab".
