Hi everyone,

i'm currently try migrate my mythtv-server into an xen maschine but the
ivtv-driver for my Hauppauge PVR350 doesn't work. Now, a lot of googling
and reading later i'm now here.
I've an error which i can't exactly allocate: is it an driver or an xen
generated error ?

I got with the ivtv-drivers following error:

<6>ivtv warning: ENC: DMA still Pending while stopping capture!

In both cases an "dma-part" of the driver is touched. Now, when i
understand it right
(http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-changelog/2005-07/msg00183.html)
this error shouldn't longer exist but it does, on my system with xen 2.0
testing (which should contain the fix). What could goes wrong?

On http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ivtv/devel/24845 you'll find my
post on ivtv-dev list with a little bit more system informations.

What can i do ?

Manuel

These kinds of problem are quite hard to debug without having direct
access to hardware. I got lucky last time round and eyeballed a problem
in our dma-mapping functions. :-)

You may have to wait for other 3.0-related issues to settle down a bit
before any core developers have time to look at the problem and suggest
extra debugging to add....

Hi Keir,

thank you for your response. Is there a chance, that this errors are
lapsed with xen 3.0? My first try was xen 3.0, but with it, everytime when
i started the xend daemon, the network interface are no longer available
to the network (ifconfig shows me all available interface but ping can't
contact himself or any other host in my network). I can reproduce this
problem on 2 pc's. If you can tell me, how i can solve this problem, i
would try xen 3.0 with my "hardware carousel" and would deliver
bug-reports for this version.

For xen 2.0 i could it maybe made possible, give an trustable person
(developer) remote access to my maschine for collecting more informations
for debugging and bugfixing. If it's an passable to contribute, i would do
this.

This is interesting. Do you have more than one NIC? The scripts should
work out of the box for systems with one nic, called eth0.

Hi,

the first pc have an davicom 10/100 (PCI Card) nic:

0000:02:07.0 Ethernet controller: Davicom Semiconductor, Inc. Ethernet
100/10 MBit (rev 31)
        Subsystem: Unknown device 4554:434e
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 64, IRQ 16
        I/O ports at ec00 [size=fe200000]
        Memory at fe1ffc00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256]
        Expansion ROM at 00040000 [disabled]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2

This PC runs with SuSE 9.1. The second PC have an Realtek (PCI Card) nic:

0000:00:08.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
Subsystem: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RT8139
Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 18
        I/O ports at ec00 [size=256]
        Memory at df5fff00 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=256]
Capabilities: [50] Power Management version 2

and runs with gentoo. Current xen 3.0 in gentoo portage is
xen-3.0.0_pre20050929, on SuSE i tried xen 3.0 release downloaded last
friday.
In my post there was one error: I can ping the himself but not the ip's
outside of the pc. I notice only this messages after starting xend:

Oct 6 13:14:31 linux kernel: eth0: Promiscuous mode enabled.
Oct 6 13:14:31 linux kernel: device eth0 entered promiscuous mode

In some rarely cases the nic stay alive so that i can ping ip's outside
but mostly (in 9 of 10 cases) the connection failed

We've had Gentoo problems because it doesn't have ifup/ifdown scripts.
That problem is now fixed in our repository, but perhaps not in gentoo
packages. I'm not sure what the problem might be with SuSE -- does the
failure look the same as on gentoo?

Ok, i'll take the current repository for gentoo and try it again. SuSE
shows me the following msg in syslog after xend start:

Oct 6 13:36:42 linux ifup: No configuration found for xen-br0

But it wouldn't explain why the interface mostly have no function but
sometimes ...
