Hi,
I have the same problem as mentioned earlier regarding initrd:
If I place initrd in the grub.cfg file, it will not be loaded. Using the command line, I can easily boot my system:
Athlon XP with 1 GB memory booting of the first IDE drive, /dev/hda1 aka. hd0,0 is grub's root and linux /boot, /dev/hda2 aka. hd0,1 is linux root
My grub.cfg:
set timeout=3
set default
menuentry "Linux" {
linux /vmlinuz quiet root=/dev/hda2
initrd /initrd
}
I tried to use the mem= option discussed in an earlier thread, but couldn't find any docs about it ...
Any suggestions?
Bye,
Christian
P.S.: I am only a user of grub2 ... and have very limited coding knowledge .. however I use a EPOX board with SATA which does not work with legcy grub ....

It is not the same problem, if you can boot it from the command line.

Here is an error. You should put "set default=0". Currently, the scripting
engine is very fragile with an error.

OK. Can you try the CVS version? I've already fixed some initrd issues.
Thanks,
Okuji

Sorry, for jumping in this discussion so late.
I am using initrd heavily with grub 1.94 and here is my grub.cfg file:
set timeout=1
insmod font
insmod terminal
insmod vbe
insmod gfxterm
menuentry "Linux" {
linux /bzImage root=/dev/ram splash=silent vga=791 quiet
initrd /loader.img
boot
}
menuentry "Reset to Factory defaults" {
linux /bzImage root=/dev/ram splash=silent vga=791 quiet
custom=reset-defaults
initrd /loader.img
boot
}
menuentry "Reset to Factory Video defaults" {
linux /bzImage root=/dev/ram splash=silent vga=791 quiet
custom=reset-video
initrd /loader.img
boot
}
menuentry "Complete Firmware upgrade ! ATTENTION ! ALL DATA WILL BE ERASED" {
linux /bzImage root=/dev/ram splash=silent vga=791 quiet
custom=firmware
initrd /loader.img
boot
}
The initrd is about ~15MB big,so Kernel is setup to be able to handle this big
initrd files.
Best regards
Anes

Hi,
after comparing your grub.cfg to mine, the main difference is the filename of the kernel and the initrd ... so I copied my vmlinuz-2.6.15-25-686 to vmlinuz and my initrd-2.6.15-25-386 to initrd ....
Adding this entry to grub.cfg as default entry with
menuentry "Kubunutu" {
linux /vmlinuz root=/dev/hda2 splash=silent quiet
initrd /initrd
boot
}
And that works!!!!
If I find the time, I will also try to install the newest CVS version.
Bye,
Christian
