Dear mailing list,
I had a couple of questions involving the relationship between fedora
core 3, gcc and glibc. gcc version is 3.4 something.
I have a acer 7600GT Veriton machine and I searched online that only
redhat 9 has been tested and verified that it runs on this machine. I
installed fedora core 3 and it also runs perfectly.
But problem is that the source code I am working with is compatible
with an old gcc (gcc 2.XX series). I also noticed that all of my
colleagues have an old redhat installation (redhat 7.3).
So, I wanted to install redhat 7.3, but it turns out that during
installation you have to enter the driver for the CD-ROM. It asks me
is my cd-rom a scsi one or not. And then asks me to choose what
manufacturer it is. I cant seem to find out what kind of CD-ROM I
have. Does anyone know how to find the the make? Acer's website doesnt
have more information.
Also, is there a way I can keep my existing Fedora core installation
and try to download, compile and install an old gcc? How will I
remove the old gcc, what about the existing glibc installation, and
other system libraries?
Sorry for the long mail, but I would really appreciate answers as this
issue has been plaguing me for quite some time now.
Thanks
