Without addressing anything else, this point is vacuous.  The whole
point of begin "maintainer" is that you are the one making the
decisions.  Of course making a decision from the position of the one
making the decisions is unilateral.

The salient questions rather are whether the decision is sensible, takes
into account all available input and is communicated in a reasonable
manner.
