AMD Athlon 64 2800+ ("Newcastle") Socket 754

Hi,
I decided to change my new Sempron 2600+ to a Athlon64 2800+. Does
anybody habe experiences with this CPU an CPUfreq? Does it work
together? 
This CPU knows of course 'Cool'n Quiet', but is NOT a mobile processor!
Is there a difference between powernow! and Cool'n Quiet?
I have to send the sempron back soon, so any hints are appreciated.

Hello all,

In the same thread I'd like to ask if is it possible to slow down a
"Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 3.40GHz" with the appropriate module
()p2_clockmod)? It does not has 'Cool'n Quiet'. It is a workstation.
BTW which is the best utility to switch cpu frequencies, besides the
kernel modules of course?

You're referring to p4_clockmod, and its possible to use it to slow down said 
processor, AFAIK.
However, it does not scale _voltage_ (and only throttles but does not scale
frequency) like 'Cool'n Quiet' or 'Demand-Based-Switching'. Some recent
Intel Xeon processors are capable of dynamic frequency and voltage scaling,
so you should try out "acpi-cpufreq" and "speedstep-centrino" first.

All Athlon64 do support C'n'Q.

I have 3000+ and my brother have 2800+. Both work with cpufreq without
any problems.
(I've even undervolted my C'n'Q :) )
Ofcorse, you should read your motherboard manual and search Internet a
little bit because some Socket 754 mobos does not support C'n'Q well if
they work with two memory modules.

C'n'Q = PowerNow! for AMD64
