It looks like the other arch-specific Makefiles also override the
environment. To work around the problem, you can disable
CONFIG_CROSSCOMPILE and define CROSS_COMPILE in the environment.
Strangely enough, the help for CONFIG_CROSSCOMPILE already explains
that.

Not silly because that is exactly what happened. He sent me his config in a
private mail.
I don't know what method he used to upgrade his kernel, but the setting
changed from 'y' to 'm', and I've received quite a few reports from
different users on this lately...

Changeset 9889:42a8e3101c6c reorganized the code on this file, and
missed this spin_unlock_irq(). Without this patch, my machine hang
completely during boot. With this, it works.

I'm looking into performance issues with HVM domains. After running some
micro benchmarks I see that network performance takes a big hit in HVM
domains. For example, on my test machine the netperf benchmark shows that
an HVM domain gets only 3% of the throughput of a paravirtualized domain.
In an effort to track down where the time is spent I applied the patches

dom0 and the HVM domain (domain ID 1) are each running a uniprocessor
kernel. The vcpu for the HVM domain was pinned to the sibling hyperthread
of the same core on which dom0 is running to reduce the latencies of memory
access between cores and/or sockets.
The vcpu in dom0 ran at about 83% utilized. The vcpu in the HVM domain ran
at about 37.5% utilized.
I don't see any obvious problems in the Xenoprof output. Anyone with
experience with the inner workings of HVM domains care to comment on what
might be causing the network performance to suffer so much?

Seeing some of our hosts in only one site having problems with hangs
occurring. Seems to be to same filer and even same paths, but what I
see is odd. The kernel rpciod thread is even stuck in state D,
seemingly because the umount call is.
i.e.

unfortunately, once this happens, any new mounts will fail. Can't even
stat the path above via df. Basically the whole NFS layer is stuck.
Using autofs-4.1.4 with
autofs-4.1.4-misc-fixes.patch
autofs-4.1.4-multi-parse-fix.patch
autofs-4.1.4-non-replicated-ping.patch
patches (slight possibility one of the above is missing, but I'm pretty
damn sure they're in there).
Mounts are TCP based so I can't even use a spoofed interface to force a
umount.
Wondering why the extra / in the path on the umount call as well. Also
wondering if there's something in the filer (netapp) wrong that's giving
some kind of response to the umount that's tickling a bug there. Not
much I've found online yet though.
Oh, and umount call shows socks in fd list that don't appear to exist
anymore:

Problem happens on hosts using same autofs daemons with or without
direct maps enabled. Not really sure if it's technically an autofs
issue (unless there's a glitch in how it's calling umount and it's
timing there) or an NFS layer issue.
SLES9-SP1, kernel 2.6.5-7.147-smp (from suse-9.2 updates) on
x86_64 hosts.

I was just about to suggest something for this general use. It's currently
kind of a pain to deal with the situation where you've got stuff on your
workstation that you want to version control in a shared repository on a
server.
I think it shouldn't be on fetch, though; I think a "git remote" command
for describing, creating, and modifying remotes would be better, since you
also sometimes want to add a "Push:" line.
Maybe:
git remote <name>: Print info about <name>
git remote add <name> <URL> [<direction> ...]: create a remote
git remote <name> <direction> ...: modify a remote
where <direction> is either:
pull <remote> <local> or
push <local> <remote>

I don't believe pre-empt has anything to do eith it. I have a specialized
boot system (vairous types of boot media) w/o preempt turned on because I
want this as small as possible. It also has this problem.

Not true, the rom attribute maps the ROM into PCI space where ever the
kernel tells it to and reads it from there. It is the PCI VGA
emulation feature that forces the ROM to appear at C000:0. You can
have the ROM mapped and VGA emulation turned off.
This brings up another major point. X changes the PCI VGA emulation
routing from user space, another thing that it should not be doing. I
have posted patches before providing a sysfs VGA attribute on class
VGA devices. By setting the attribute to 1 you can control the active
VGA emulation device.
This is yet another way that user space can mess up the kernel. If VGA
routing is changes under fbdev (my attribute notifies fbdev, the fbdev
code for processing the notification did get checked in) then the
console will screw up. The usual screw up is that the console goes
blank because hardware fonts are not setup correctly on the new
console.
I also remember posting a patch for initializing all class VGA devices
at boot. This is a complication process since running the ROM will
leave that card as the active VGA device. The initialization code
made sure to set the console back to the original VGA card after the
secondary one was initialized. The initialization process needs to
run a user space app which provides real mode access or an x86
emulator. BenH has the x86 emulator code (people sticking PC hardware
into PowerPCs need the emulator). This code for running the ROM should
go into the kernel tree and work with klibc.
I would really like to see a well designed, comprehensive plan for
handling these issues instead of just providing convenience APIs (that
may be hard to get rid of) for the old X code. I'm willing to help if
people really are serious about fixing the problems.

Are you sure ? I'm surprised. Where did you get this kernel from ?
I just tested on a custom kernel 2.4.32 built from kernel.org sources
(almost standard, just a few Netfilter patch-o-matic add-ons). And my
conclusion is that unexpected TCP FIN or RST packets are classified NEW
by the connection tracking, thus creating an entry in the conntrack/NAT
table /proc/net/ip_conntrack. However, unexpected ICMP packets such as
Echo Reply or Destination Unreachable are classified INVALID.

As in the plan, I would like to stabilize GRUB 2 at 1.96. This means that we
will not introduce any incompatibility after November (from the users' point
of view). Currently, I'm going to apply the same policy as GRUB 1.90-1.96,
that is, we still accept new features but not incompatible changes. So, if
you want to change anything, you must propose (and implement) it before
November.
Do you agree with this policy? This is just a plan, so I can change it, if you
don't like.
After 1.96, my plan is not clear yet. Now is too early to discuss this.

You could always reprogram the BARs. But I really wouldn't recommend
this; you'll just fragment the address space.

In the Xen 2.0.x compatibility section of xend (where we try to parse
the s-expressions if they came from an SXP configuration file for Xen
2.0.x), the wrong variable is referenced. This fix corrects the python
script to use the correct variable.

Hello,
I think I may have found a bug.
I'm using reiser4 for my /home directory on a 2.6.15 (ubuntu) patched
kernel for reiser4.
Yesterday I filled my /home once, then emptied it a little, then filled
it again, and so on about 3 or 4 times. I shut it down properly and all
seemed ok.
Then today when I started it, the partition was completelty messed up. I
fixed it with fsck but I had a lot of troubles to get it back working
even when fsck said it was ok...
I had many different error messages in dmesg, like error input/ouput,
inode error, and sd error.
If I can help you on anything about this please ask,

I'm not quite sure how this python error could be causing your reboot
problem, but you did find a typo in that script. I'll submit a patch for
it to xen-unstable. If you'd like to fix it yourself, just change
dev_config to config.
Did you upgrade your box from xen 2.0.x to xen 3.0.2? That code path is
unlikely to be followed unless you either used an SXP configuration file
(which I didn't think you had done because "pci = ['00:0d.0']" wouldn't
work in an SXP file) or your Xen 3.0.2 installation didn't completely
overwrite all of the Xen 2.0.x files.

I have a small Reiser4 FS (1 GB) which became really unstable since

There seems to be some kind of phantom "xyzzy" folder
in the new ELKS tar files; is it just my computer or
something? (It gives an "Operation failed" error if
you try to extract it.)

Summary: Module generates error message when loading, and
error when trying to play an au-file.
Description:
When loading the module (snd-hda-intel) i get an error message on the
console. The modules still loads and creates the expected devices and
proc files (as far as I can see).
When trying to use the module, by cat-ing a au-file into /dev/sound/audio,
I get another error message on the console, and no sound out.
This is compiled with the lates version from hg.

Try HG version. Some tweaks for thinkpad *60 were applied.

Still going; it's a slow, tedious process. I'm currently rewriting the build
system from scratch to make it, like, actually maintainable. This has,
unfortunately, require writing a build tool to do it! It tends to move on in
fits and starts as I gain/lose interest.
However, the version on the website with the old build system
(http://tack.sf.net) *does* build and run on Linux. The only trouble with it
is that it doesn't know how to produce ELKS binaries, so someone would have to
write a binary format converter to do that (and produce an ELKS syscall
library). This wouldn't be much work, seeing as how ELKS uses Minix binaries
which the ACK does know how to make, but would still need someone to actually
do it... volunteers?
(The ACK will, if you ask it to, compile Fortran, Pascal, K&R C, ANSI C,
Occam, Basic and Modula 2 for any platform it supports; so if someone *were*
to do that, you suddenly gain a whole bunch of new supported languages.)

For the 860 you can purchase a hardware debugger from www.denx.de for
50 Euros. For the 8260 you must buy the more expensive BDI2000, but
that is Freescale's fault. But the look and feel of BDI2000 is the same as
BDI4GDB, just faster, so you can decide whether it's worth the money for
you.
When you say 'kgdb' you imply 'gdb' which is the standard GNU-world
debugger. kgdb is a means for letting a kernel communicate with a PC based
(or equivalent) gdb and is an alternative to a hardware debugger. Also,
check out ddd, a front end for gdb.
IMHO, these serial debugging ports on PPC are the greatest thing since
sliced
bread and it would be foolish not to take advantage of them.

* [rfc][patch] ipvs: use proper timeout instead of fixed value

Instead of using the default timeout of 3 minutes, this uses the timeout
specific to the protocol used for the connection. The 3 minute timeout
seems somewhat arbitrary (though I know it is used other places in the
ipvs code) and when failing over it would be much nicer to use one of
the configured timeout values.
