+Intro
+=====
+
+This default configuration will allow you to start experimenting with the
+buildroot environment for the Radxa ROCK 4B. With the current configuration
+it will bring-up the board, and allow access through the serial console or
+via ssh if the board is plugged via ethernet port or has WiFi network configured.
+
+Radxa ROCK 4B link:
+
+Documentation link:
+
+GPIO Interface link:
+
+This configuration uses mainline ATF, U-Boot and kernel.
+
+How to build
+============
+
+ $ make rock4b_defconfig
+ $ make
+
+How to write the SD card
+========================
+
+Once the build process is finished you will have an image called "sdcard.img"
+in the output/images/ directory.
+
+Copy the bootable "sdcard.img" onto an SD card with "dd":
+
+ $ sudo dd if=output/images/sdcard.img of=/dev/sdX
+ $ sudo sync
+
+Insert the micro SD card in your Radxa ROCK 4B and power it up. The console
+is available on UART2 on the GPIO connector, 1500000bps 8N1.
+
+How to flash the board eMMC
+===========================
+
+Before building the sdcard.img for use on the board eMMC, you'll have to
+edit the board/radxa/rock4b/extlinux.conf file with root=/dev/mmcblk0p1
+
+Once the build process is done, flashing the sdcard.img on the board
+eMMC is achieved using the rkdeveloptool tool found in output/host/bin/
+as follows:
+1) Download the Flash loader binary for the board from the following link:

Thanks a lot for this package. A question though: isn't this firmware
already in linux-firmware? I see in linux-firmware:

We normally use:

	cp -dpfr

for such copies.

Hi Thomas,
Before adding this package, I've checked linux-firmware and saw that it
does not support brcmfmac43456-sdio.bin firmware
required for the AP6256 chip.
However, while looking in the brcmfmac_sdio-firmware-rpi package on
buildroot I see it supports the firmware:

ddf83f2100885b166be52d21c8966db164fdd4e1d816aca2acc67ee9cc28d726
 brcmfmac43456-sdio.bin
44e0bb322dc1f39a4b0a89f30ffdd28bc93f7d7aaf534d06d229fe56f6198194
 brcmfmac43456-sdio.txt
2dbd7d22fc9af0eb560ceab45b19646d211bc7b34a1dd00c6bfac5dd6ba25e8a
 brcmfmac43456-sdio.clm_blob (default_config)

But brcmfmac_sdio-firmware package has specific firmware and config for the
rockpi4b board as follows:
78085a816d23d9877e3ab872d8eb142646bfde18afd2c7a5b89885327a287d19
 brcmfmac43456-sdio.radxa,rockpi4b.bin
343d1c79cfe0e10e1777e3de19a0302f748f69fa8356cab2c36ca0cf90bbcf0e
 brcmfmac43456-sdio.radxa,rockpi4b.txt

And they are not just symlinks to the default brcmfmac43456-sdio.bin
or brcmfmac43456-sdio.txt
So I thought this package could be useful to the community especially since
it supports a lot of boards.

I'll update the patch.
Regards,
Jean-Paul

In what direction will you update the patch? I guess the main issue is
that your package was named just brcmfmac_sdio-firmware, while in fact
it is specific to the rockpi4b board.

But instead of doing this, why don't you send a patch to
linux-firmware to add what's missing?

Yep, I'll check that, sorry I did not see your email early.

HI Thomas,
I've made an MR to linux-firmware and they've refused it because the vendor
was not
agreeable to distribute their firmware via linux-firmware. Their response
in quote below.

> We can't accept BCM43456 firmware, the vendor is Synaptics and they have
> not agreed

(and in fact a conversation I had with a VP of Wireless at the vendor
> refused), to redistribute their

firmware through linux-firmware.

Meh, vendors. OK. But then maybe we need to find a better package name
that clarifies how this package is different from the other brcmfmac
firmware packages? I guess everybody is forking this everywhere to add
its own variant that contains board-specific tweaks?

The other package name is brcmfmac_sdio-firmware-rpi, which contains
WiFi and Bluetooth firmware binaries only for raspberry PI boards.
The brcmfmac_sdio-firmware contains firmware binaries for other boards.
I've named it to package brcmfmac_sdio-firmware so that it matches the repo
name
in github. The repo is maintained by LibreELEC, same as
brcmfmac_sdio-firmware-rpi.

Regards,
Jean-Paul
