Hi,

This is the second set of changes in preparation for for syncing less
dependencies in PPD builds, to avoid the package rebuild problem as
originally proposed at [1].

These patches are a little less trivial.

Apologies on the delay with v2 on this, days do not have enough hours in
them.

Since the patches are technically free standing developers are only CCd on
the cover letter and the patches touching things they maintain.

foot's INSTALL.md says to use the ncurses provided terminfo. [1]

If the ncurses package is being installed, disable generating the bundled
terminfo in favor of the ncurses one.

Note that the ncurses terminfo is smaller, meaning that some edge case
features may no longer work properly after this.

The package doesn't compile when Java is enabled.

It has been broken since commit 3c66f65a6a54 ("package/libopenssl: bump
version to 3.0.9") from 2023, and was left unfixed by commit 8dc7445056d1
("package/libest: Add support for openssl v3") from 2024, which added a
patch to support OpenSSL 3.0+ with libest.

No one has complained yet, so remove the support as it's clearly unused.

Note that upstream has not made a single commit, nor responded to tickets
or reviewed pull requests since 2022. [1]

Due to partial rtl8188eu support in the upstream Linux kernel
linux-firmware packages the firmware for this chip now, under the same
filename and path. However that firmware is a much newer version.

linux-firmware carries version v28 from 2017 [1] while the firmware blob
bundled in the repository is from over 13 years ago [2].

Since it cannot be confirmed that the newer firmware works with this
driver, add a conflict with the specific firmware sub-package.

The reverse conflict cannot be added since Kconfig sees that as a
circular dependency.

systemd since version 257 installs legacy.conf again, but a different
version of the file compared to buildroot. version 260 will once again
stop installing it.

Move the buildroot custom legacy.conf to the systemd package and install it
from there ensuring the expected legacy.conf is the one installed in all
cases.

Since release 0.2 of the rpicam-apps these dependencies have been required
if enable_egl=True is given to meson. [1]

The dependency check was broken since commit 3fac163b9315
("package/libcamera-apps: bump to version 1.1.0") in early 2023.

util-linux-libs was introduced as an intermediate package to help break
circular dependencies with util-linux, and therefor only exists to provide
more basic versions of the libraries util-linux provide, to break these
dependency chains.

There is no need to install these to target as they will never be used
there.

Under all circumstances the libraries are built and installed by the main
util-linux package.

This only solves the confict for target, the conflict will remain for
staging as that conflict is much harder to solve.

Upstream has not seen any active work since late 2022. [1]
There was an attempt at finding a new maintainer in 2024, which didn't
lead anywhere. [2]

The package will no longer build with setuptools >= 82. [3]

-Python 3.14 removes the ast.Str node type. String literals now appear

-Update the AST check to accept both ast.Str (for older Pythons) and

I've tested that this patch does not break my non-PPD builds. In my view
this is a correctness fix.

Best regards,
Fiona

This issue has been fixed since then by commit
7e34cd7c7e5094f99ee26b24493a9007b646c3f9.

That being said, I personally don't really care about
libest. Aleksandr, are you still using libest?

This commit is only reorganizing meson options, I think the commit
actually introducing the requirement for epoxy+xlib is older than this
one.

I believe this would fix:

  https://autobuild.buildroot.net/results/21d/21dcd20d70c12758083733b0e5bc8f1efc671370/build-end.log

> LIBCAMERA_APPS_CONF_OPTS += -Denable_egl=enabled
> else
> LIBCAMERA_APPS_CONF_OPTS += -Denable_egl=disabled

However, I'm not 100% convinced this is the right fix because the
Config.in also has:

	select BR2_PACKAGE_XLIB_LIBX11 if BR2_PACKAGE_XORG7 && (BR2_PACKAGE_HAS_LIBEGL || BR2_PACKAGE_HAS_LIBGL)
	select BR2_PACKAGE_LIBDRM if BR2_PACKAGE_XORG7 && (BR2_PACKAGE_HAS_LIBEGL || BR2_PACKAGE_HAS_LIBGL)
	select BR2_PACKAGE_LIBEPOXY if BR2_PACKAGE_XORG7 && (BR2_PACKAGE_HAS_LIBEGL || BR2_PACKAGE_HAS_LIBGL)

I can't really wrap my head around what's the right way to deal with
all those dependencies.

With your change:

 +ifeq ($(BR2_PACKAGE_LIBEPOXY)$(BR2_PACKAGE_XLIB_LIBX11),yy)
 +LIBCAMERA_APPS_DEPENDENCIES += libepoxy xlib_libX11
  LIBCAMERA_APPS_CONF_OPTS += -Denable_egl=enabled

We may be passing -Denable_egl=enabled even if there's no OpenGL
support at all: libepoxy can now be enabled without any OpenGL
provider enabled, and xlib_libx11 also doesn't guarantee that we have
OpenGL support.

I honestly don't quite understand those selects in the Config.in
file. My understanding is that libcamera-apps has a preview/ folder
with several variants: drm-preview, egl-preview, wayland-egl-preview,
qt-preview and null-preview. Maybe we should instead handle these more
clearly/explicitly?

I worked on libest while I was at the company, but I’m no longer there, so
I can’t say whether they still use it. I’m not personally using it anymore.

I completely overlooked that. I'll need to dig into that.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll see what I can achieve.

Hi Bernd, Aleksandr,

Bernd, are you using libest? I see you have worked on this package recently.

Do you mean Cisco? When I was looking at github activity for the
project, it seems I did not look enough at the issue list and just
concluded it wasn't being handled. Looks like Cisco shut the test /
"getting started" servers down in 2023 [1].

Hi John,

no, I only fixed easy-to-fix bugs I came across during allyesconfig builds
for the upcoming bump of libopenssl to 4.0.x.

Regards, Bernd
