nouveau-related portion of /var/log/dmesg

When my new computer boots, the nouveau driver pauses saying "unsupported
chipset, please report!"  Graphics card is Asus ENGT430 (GeForce GT430).  OS is
Mageia 1, running kernel-server-2.6.38.7-1.mga-1-1.mga1.x86_64.rpm as nearly as
I can determine.  In case it matters, the motherboard is an Asus P6T6 WS
Revolution, processor is a Xeon W3680, and RAM is 12GB ECC DDR3.  I'll try to
attach the relevant portion from /var/log/dmesg.

I'm willing to give it a try.  Lest I go down a wrong path trying to Google
where to get the nouveau git kernel, is there a recommended wiki or howto page?

What is the level of risk from this message?  Is it simply that the specific
model of chipset has not been marked on a checklist?  Or, is there significant
risk that this card and driver combo would be unstable?  (So far, it has worked
admirably for OS customization, but I haven't been doing much full-motion
video--yet.)  I guess what I'm trying to ask is whether I should proceed to put
this machine into production as is vs. go out and buy a different graphics
card.

The message is harmless, and you card should operate correctly as far as
getting an image on the monitor.  It does, however, mean there's no support for
any kind of acceleration.

The kernel in nouveau git (http://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/InstallDRM) has
support for your chipset.  However, your exact chipset may be broken still with
nouveau in some way.  Acceleration is currently blacklisted by default even
with the git kernel.

I say "may", as the only hardware I have with that chipset in it is in a
pre-production laptop so I can't be certain it's the driver's fault.

In my dmesg says:

As you have quite a recent card, there are a couple of things you can try
1. Can you try nouveau/kernel
2. Try linus 3.1

Note that you have a Optimus system thus read here[1] for more information

In either case can you please attach the full dmesg log. That will provide us a
bit more information about your card

I'm attaching my dmesg now.

Also, I'm so new in linux at this level at least, so, can you explain me in
detail what do you mean with nouveau/kernel and linus(linux?) 3.1 ?

By nouveau/kernel and linus 3.1 I meant the actual tree your kernel is based on
e.g.
* nouveau/kernel - the main development repo [1]
* linus 3.1 - the latest (unreleased) linux kernel[2]. It includes only some of
the new features that can be found in [1]

AFAIK the nvc1(your card) support is introduced in the linux 3.1 (rather than
3.0) thus you see the message in your log.
Currently it's known to have some issues (acceleration related), nevertheless
feel free to give it a try.

If you wish to test the acceleration (mesa/gallium as well), make sure that
you're using [1] or [2], and append "nouveau.noaccel=0" to your kernel command
line

It appears that this bug report has laid dormant for quite a while. Sorry we
haven't gotten to it. Since we fix bugs all the time, chances are pretty good
that your issue has been fixed with the latest software. Please give it a shot.
(Linux kernel 3.10.7, xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.9, mesa 9.1.6, or their git
versions.) If upgrading to the latest isn't an option for you, your distro's
bugzilla is probably the right destination for your bug report.
