Funny, I just visited it today and didn't know how long this website has 
been idle like that (with only 4 blogs or so). So I was about to write 
you to post it right here, but you did that already.

Although right now I can't see any subscriptions at all :(

There was somebody who used to post a weekly summary of git-related writings from people's blogs to this list.  What happened to it?  There was not enough interest?

You mean the git weekly links, or the editorial kind of thing?

Just went there, because I thought it might be fun to write about my 
newest ideas, and progress on old ones.

But then I read this:

Up until the "send an email to the webmaster with your name", I was game.

After that: I am probably too stupid, because I do not understand what is

Generally "planets" just aggregate existing feeds, they don't provide services 
to create the feeds.  A feed URL is really just a URL to a RSS-formatted 
resource.  (Most content management systems, e.g. Drupal or Joomla provide a 
number of feed URL for [subsets of] the content; there are also free "weblog" 
services that also give you a feed URL.)  Hackergotchi is stupid slang for a 
small image that can be placed beside your feed items, I'm not entirely sure 
what the etymology of it is.

If we wanted to, I suppose we could provide weblog services to developers.  
Maybe on git-scm.com or something.  I'm just thinking out loud here, though.  
I don't even know if there's real interest in something like that.  And 
personally, I'd rather be writing patches than maintaining a Drupal 
installation on devblog.git-scm.com or whatever.

Hi Dscho,

not sure what you're talking about, but it's common on planets for 
people to be listed with their name (instead of the strange titles some 
blogs have). Just have a look at two different planets I regularly 
visit:

Besides, I'm sure that if you use your synonym it's fine too ;)

When you want to start a new Planet and make it successful, it may not be a bad idea to prime it by adding feeds from well known people near the center of the git universe, and it would have been better if it was done even before going public like this announcement.

You may have to research whose writings are worth including (http://git.or.cz/gitwiki/GitLinks has a few pointers), and you need to probably go to them and ask permission for including their feeds.  In other words, I think you should spend some effort on your own, not just setting up a site and throwing a URL to the wild, to make your Planet successful.

What about a planet for git? Maybe an official blog too.

I've been following delicious.com tags for git [1] and there's many
people blogging about git with very interesting posts. I think the
content should be git-specific, unlike other planets where people blog
about their lives and what not. But that's only my opinion.

Actually, since wordpress already provides hosting I tried creating a
blog there.

I tried git.wordpress.com but a minimum of 4 characters is required,
alphanum. So I got http://gitlog.wordpress.com/.

Is that ok? Or are there recommendations for something different?
