I am getting messages like the following in my logs using kernel
2.4.20-xfs and alsa 0.9.2 release:
Apr 3 23:27:52 ccs kernel: ALSA ../alsa-kernel/pci/via82xx.c:675: invalid via82xx_cur_ptr, using last valid pointer
What does this mean and have you fixed it yet?
Thanks.

how often do you see this message? which program?
the playback works otherwise?
also, please tell the chip revision (or output of
/proc/asound/cards). the behavior of via82xx driver depends on the
chip model.
if you're using VIA8233A (not 8233,8233C,8235), please try hw:0,1 for
aplay.
thanks,
Takashi

Every couple of minutes using freeamp or speakfreely both of which
are using the oss emulation.

ehm, sorry i meant if you do NOT use via8233A. please try hw:0,1 (or
/dev/adsp for oss).
anyway, for testing, aplay is suitable. please check this first.
then try oss.
also, please try the cvs version. i changed a bit this driver since
0.9.2.

I am not sure what you are asking me to do -- none of the programs
seem to have a way to change the sound device -- could you explain?
What is hw:0,1 ?
Thanks.

% aplay -Dhw:0,1 foo.wav
in the case of oss apps, specify /dev/adsp as the sound device (if
possible). i don't know whether freeamp has such a config or an
option.

it means the direct access to the second pcm device of the first sound
card.
