Hi!

I've a problem getting a route with the ip command. When i try the command

ip route get <ip>

which should show me the route to the target <ip>, i only get the message:

Truncated message

The problem appears with any of my network devices, which are
a ISDN card ippp0 to connect to the internet
a Ethernet card eth0 to connect to a private network 192.168.0.0
and the problem also appears at the loopback-device if i try to get a route
to 127.0.0.1

I've nowhere found an explanation of this message, so i've absolutly no plan
what the problem is.

Would be nice if anyone colud help me. Thanks!

	Martin

Well, I just tried it (never understood before what ip route get was
supposed to do!) and it works for me!

$ sudo ip ro get 10.1.2.4
10.1.2.4 via 213.244.168.193 dev eth0 src 213.244.168.210
    cache mtu 1500

Which version if iproute do you run? Do you have 'route information socket'
(or something like that) enabled in your kernel?

Regards,

bert

I've searched the whole google-archive and did'nt found anyone who has
exactly this problem. I've even loocked into the source, but i don't know
much enough to understand it and the source i have is sparely commented.

That's the ouptut which someone should get as described in the doc, and
that's what i want to get...

Version ss010803.

Sorry, i'm new on this topic. Can you tell me how to find out if it is
enabled in my kernel? I use SuSE Linux 7.3, with the default kernel
installed. Kernel-Version is 2.4.10.
