There were a rising number of problems/questions about imq.
To answer some of them i've created a FAQ, a link is on the imq page.
It still contains a error (compilation) but i'm going to fix it later.

Do you need to use IP Tables to put traffic into IMQ or can you use 'tc
filter add dev.....' ??

You have to distinguish between how to direct packets to imq and how to 
classify traffic inside qdiscs. Traffic gets directed to an imq device by 
the IMQ itables targets. Once packets have reached the device(qdisc) you 
can use any kind of classification you are used to...
