What you're noticing is that not enough people are testing 2.5.xx. I
don't think that's good either, because 2.6 will be upon sooner or
later and it'd be ugly if everybody waited until then to do some
testing.
My role as a maintainer is not to test each and every possible
configuration option and guarantee that things work. Even if I wanted
to (which I don't) I couldn't do that for lack of time. My role is to
make sure that if someone sends me a fix or an enhancement that it
gets incorporated into the source tree within a reasonable amount of
time (or to give feedback, in case something is wrong with the
fix/enhancement). I'm sure everybody on this list understands this,
but it makes me feel better to mention it from time to time... ;-)
So, to all who haven't tried 2.5 recently but wants things to work in
2.6: now is a good time to do some testing. Apart from he lack of
module-support and driver-issues, the kernel proper is actually in
very good shape. Which reminds me: nobody has expressed interest so
far in working on the kernel module loader. Somebody will have to
fight that battle and it's not gonna be me.

Sure, I attached the .config I'm using for 2.5.60 on zx1-based
machines (it should work without changes for 2.5.59).
