This is exactly the same problem I have on RedHat 4.2/Sparc on an SS20
(150MHz HyperSparc, X11R6.1-Sun-pl1-23, dual cg6). I don't know if it's
a fault in the X server, some HyperSparc specific problem or something
else. It seems to be related to shared memory. gimp --no-shm --no-x-shm
solves the problem for me (at least in Gimp; other programs have the
same problem). I'm running very close to my limit of physical memory.
There's plenty of swap free, though. Note that I get this image corruption
in Gimp as soon as it starts. It's not related to script-fu->logos-alien.
I had been hoping that when I finally get round to upgrading to UltraPenguin
the problem would vanish. From this bug report, apparently not. Any ideas
welcome.

Yes definately shared-memory related, gimp work to and from the
Ultralinux-machine just fine! Well I'll give the XF 3.3.2
release a shot and try that..
Apart from that gimp 0.99.12 is really showing its age..

Are you running an SMP kernel by any chance??

Yes, it is. I get the same problems with Gimp 0.99.28, too, though.
>Are you running an SMP kernel by any chance??
Nope. Stock 2.0.30 as shipped with RedHat 4.2. Not even recompiled.

The shared- memory screen-curruption I reported earlier still prevails in
XFree.3.3.2 which otherwise seem to work great on my cg6.
Q: Where is /etc/X11/XF86Config?? I'd like to custimize fontpath etc
with some unscaled directives and add some real fonts for a proper display,
but how do I do that without an /etc/X11/XF86Config??

Using xset, the same as the rest of the non-XFree86 world :-)
