With a few changes coming up at my place of work, I've been thinking
(for various reasons) about getting a Sun workstation for home use, and,
naturally, I've also been thinking about what operating system to use.
While I am by no means a newcomer to Linux, or even Unix in general, I
have virtually no experience with Sun hardware. So, my question is, is
Ultralinux for me?
I know that the UltraSparc port is a work in progress, but I've been
reading this mailing list for a few months now -- at least as far back
as 3 April, which is when the first message I saved was dated -- and as
far as I can tell, if I get Linux to boot at all, it will be
sufficiently stable for my needs. My question, then, is: is this a
correct impression? Should I get the workstation and install Linux,
keep Solaris around until UltraPenguin 1.1 is released, or get another
Intel box with Linux?

Yes. I use RedHat/Sparc 4.2 since about a year now (on a Sparc IPX and
some SS2's), and it "just works" - no crashes whatsoever.

Going Intel is the easier road - going Sparc is more fun :-)
