In-Reply-To: <20040126111648.GA2004-4cxDFgrrBECgSpxsJD1C4w@public.gmane.org>
Hi Micha,
It's tough to know what the DSDT wants to do differently with the _OS
checks without seeing the actual DSDT, as it varies from system to system.
I think that 0x27 is checking for "Microsoft WindowsME: Millennium
Edition" (39 characters).
The LEqual is a Logical Equal. From the spec:
16.2.3.4.2.21 LEqual (Logical Equal)
LEqualTerm := LEqual(
Source1, //TermArg=>ComputationalData
Source2 //TermArg=>ComputationalData
) => Boolean
Source1 and Source2 must be evaluated to the same data type as integers,
strings, or buffers. If the values are equal, True is returned; otherwise,
False is returned.
Hope that helps clarify a bit.
Greg

Right Matthew this case is nearly impossible (may be excepted if disconected
the usb kbd during the boot), it would means that my pdc_console is not a
serial one (ie graphic([01])) but no usb kdb found, so in that case pdc would
switch console automaticaly to serial.
I would just still check the case when I have an usb kbd (I would have to
recover one) but the pdc console is setup to serial port (eg no graphic screen
available) just for an output screen without input kbd?
Thanks for your attention and remarks,

But how will we keep track of that? It's probably easier just to wait
for each one to finish, right?

I don't mind never exiting the daemon, and leaving a small startup delay
at the beginning to make sure we have things in the proper order. That
way the delay is only once.

OIC. Some of the DMA hint register support was removed.
If you want to finish that job, remove the definition and references
to hint_mask_pdir and hint_shift_pdir. I'll maintain DMA hints
as a seperate patch (2.4 only so far) until I have data it's useful.

This is probably the most contentious issue (given say current SCO

Have you talked to the original author on this? I think granting you
written consent to move to GPL may be sufficient.
Yes, let's get this worked out before we stuff it into the tree :)

I talked to the original authors and they removed the advertising
clause
(http://orange.kame.net/dev/cvsweb.cgi/kame/kame/sys/altq/altq_hfsc.c),
but they didn't want to release the code under the GPL. Various posts on
linux-kernel indicate that combining GPL code with BSD code without
advertising clause makes the end-product automatically be subject to the
GPL, even without consent of the authors. I basically meant to ask if
this is true.

This is my first time using the CVS, so something in my protocol of
operation may be flawed. Here is what I am doing:
1. Downloading CVS source with the following command:
|cvs -z3 -d ':pserver:anonymous@cvs.alsa-project.org:/cvsroot/alsa' co -P .
2. Copying the alsa-kernel files (minus the oss and CVS folders) to
/usr/src/linux/sound/
3. Copying the alsa-kernel/include files (minus the CVS folder) to
/usr/src/linux/include/sound/
4. "make gconfig" to make sure that it is properly configured, and that
the ice1712 and Intel i8x0 drivers are enabled.
5. "make bzImage"

This is a bummer, because the latest stable release's ice1712 driver
doesn't work too well with my card and kernel 2.6.x. I was told the
latest patches will have fixed this. Any ideas why my kernel won't
compile with the latest CVS?

If you are considering GFS, you may want to know:
GFS was developed as opensource by Sistina.
18 months ago (I think) it was taken commercial.
The old opensource logic was the basis of the OpenGFS project.
Since then, both have diverged.
OpenGFS does NOT have a fault tolerant lock-server solution yet, so if
the lock-server dies, your whole file-system crashes.
I don't think GFS does either.
The OpenGFS project has CVS code that uses the IBM distributed lock
server. It is at the very initial testing phase, and definately NOT
usable yet.
I don't know if GFS is working on a fault-tolerant lock-server solution.
Redhat is in the process of buying Sistina. "Search the news section of
Google for Sistina."
Once done, Redhat "plans to offer Sistina's file system and storage
technologies as open source software." They will also be supporting it
at some point in the future.

i tried the patch you sent me ... no success ... i tried to play a
soundfile with aplay using different period-sizes ...
the file always had the same distortions ...
btw, the patch just changed the default pci latency ... i did that a few
weeks ago manually, using every setup i could think of ... it doesn't
seem to be related to this...
i'm still confused of the third line (dmesg):
cs: cb_alloc(bus 7): vendor 0x10ee, device 0x3fc5

alsa doesn't seem to realize that the multiface is connected ... is this
ok?
and:
ALSA ../../alsa-kernel/pci/rme9652/hdsp.c:807: wait for FIFO status <= 0
failed after 30 iterations

btw, paul, is the patch working on your setup?
cheers...

* PATCH: adding set hotplug function to class_simple
From: Jon Smirl @ 2004-01-26 18:44 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: linux-hotplug
[-- Attachment #1: Type: text/plain, Size: 340 bytes --]
I'm not sure this made it through the mail problems at sourceforge.
It's a patch to add a set hotplug function to class_simple.
I need this for the DRI driver.

This mail from Alan states that BSD without advertising clause linked
with GPL ends up as GPL anyways, so I'm not sure if there is a problem.

I'm going to look for some more information before bothering the
authors with License stuff again.

May I suggest that if it's new code with new approach it should get a

* RE: Firewall four nics, two separate routes

To: netfilter
Well, it doesn't seem to be very thorough, and it wouldn't encompass
non-IP (_IP_tables), but what about something like:
iptables -A FORWARD -i eth0 -o ! eth1 -j LOG --log-prefix "Wrong Route:
" (and -j DROP)
iptables -A FORWARD -i eth2 -o ! eth3 -j LOG --log-prefix "Wrong Route:
" (and -j DROP)
Test this. I'm just guessing here.

Subject: Firewall four nics, two separate routes
Hi all,
I have a firewall with four nics, two external nics with two public ips
and two internal nics with private ips (two different networks). What I
would like to do is force all traffic from each internal network to its
corresponding external nic. I believe the only solution to this is to
use iproute2, but I have had to luck. So traffic from internal net1 will
be routed out external nic1, then the other side, internal net2 will be
routed out the external nic2. Internal net1 traffic should never go out
external nic2 and internal net2 traffic should never go out external
nic1.
Thank you in advance,
Ryan

* starting an application
From: Sanjay lal @ 2004-01-26 18:52 UTC (permalink / raw)
To: linux-hotplug
Hello,
i need to start an application that is on a USB device, as and when it is
plugged in . This application has a curses based User Interface.
I am able to start the application ,using hotplug, but anything started by
hotplug seems to run in the background. And this would make the curser UI,
not visible.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks

Cool. Go ahead and "ACCEPT" the bug to let others know you're looking
at it.
I think it would be good to get acpi video standardized to defuse the
need for more platform-specific code... Indeed, the next piece of the
puzzle it to figure out how to properly do hot-keys correctly. Surely
Windows doesn't have a driver for each OEM's buttons...
I think video brightness control will be a very popular and visible
feature -- no pun intened;-)
In the back of my head I'm also wondering if we've got a missing piece
of the suspend/resume puzzle here too -- and I'd hate for ACPI to be the
"missing link" to get that key feature working.
Thanks,
-Len
