The two queues are used for sorting purposes ONLY. There is the
dispatch queue to which the requests are moved from one of the queues
and the request is processes of the dispatch queue.

Example:

Current request  = 40
Q1 = 55 58 67 72
Q2 = 10 23 38

Assuming no other request arrives, these will be pushed on the
dispatch queue in the following order
55 58 67 72 10 23 38

I hope this clears things up.

Also I have found that the patch that I had submitted earlier has few
bugs in it. I am going to fix those and then submit a patch for 2.6.16

I'm sorry for the confusion. I simply didn't want to cause a conflict with Adrian's patch, and canceled out those things from my version.

Ah. I didn't know that. It's noted, and will be used in the future. I added them mostly in an attempt to aim for clarity and completeness.

just to explain it to everyone: the code Thomas refers to and which we 
are working on is John's GTOD patchset with Thomas' high-resolution 
timers patches ontop of it. [all of that (and more) is glued together in 
the -rt tree as well].

Thomas' hrtimers queue (ontop of 2.6.16) is a practical, working 
implementation of the clock-event design Thomas is talking about, 
resulting in a working high-resolution timers solution that spans all 
the relevant Linux APIs: nanosleep() and POSIX timers. So Thomas' 
arguments derive straight from that experience.

the merge of the hrtimers subsystem into 2.6.16 was just the first step, 
and the next steps are expressed in the patches above.

Or increase performance because dcache costs dear cpu-cycles?

We have a 'rolling' release process in which bugfixes will be applied 
to the 3.0.2 branch even after an initial release is declared. So even 
after we have pushed '3.0.2' out to the public tree, public testing, 
bug reports and bug fixes will be very welcome.

Currently I would estimate we'll make the tree public tomorrow: we want 
to do one more full regression-testing run, and also do a full workout 
of older domU kernels (3.0.0 and 3.0.1) on 3.0.2 to ensure we have 
maintained full backward compatibility.

ptmx_open creates the ptm/pts pair.

If ptmx_open fails, the conditions
for releasing the ptm (and associated pts)
have been met: no active references.

Hello.

    With 64-bit physical address enabled, 'swapon' was causing kernel oops
on Alchemy CPUs (MIPS32R1) because of the swap entry type field corrupting the
_PAGE_FILE bit in pte_low. So, change layout of the swap entry to use all bits
except _PAGE_PRESENT and _PAGE_FILE (the harware protection bits are loaded
from pte_high which should be cleared by __swp_entry_to_pte() macro) -- which
gives 25 bits for the swap entry offset.
    Additionally, PTEs in MIPS32R2 should have the same layout for the 36-bit
physical address case as in MIPS32R1, according to the architecture manuals --
so, fix the #ifdef's.

Those guaranteed 500 units get binned once a domain blocks, because, as 
you already pointed out, the scheduler can't make anymore guarantees at 
that point. It can however give some of the suddenly available idle-time 
to the domain. This is done by a priority scheme that supports those 
domains most, that lost most of their time due to blocking. There are 
(or used to be?) some different approaches in sched_sedf.c, which are 
selectable at compile-time by exchanging macros. Play with those if you 
want to tweak your system, although my measurements suggested the one 
that is curently used to be the most useful. (And please send me some of 
your results if you do ;-) )

Sorry about that, I thought it was in -mm at this point.  Apparently
the latest audit master branch wasn't pulled for 17-rc1-mm1, but
AFAIKT it should be in the next -mm.

Reimplement hardreset according to the datasheet.  The old hardreset
didn't reset controller status and the controller might not be ready
after reset.  Also, as SStatus is a bit slow to reflect PHY status
after reset, sata_std_hardrset() doesn't wait long enough before
proceeding.

Note that as we're not depending on SStatus, we can't depend on DET==1
condition to wait for link, so use shorter timeout for no device case.

SiI3124 might lose completion interrupt if completion interrupt occurs
shortly after SLOT_STAT register is read for the previous completion
interrupt if it is operating in PCI-X mode.

This currently doesn't trigger as libata never queues more than one
command, but it will with NCQ changes.  This patch implements the
workaround - turning on WoC and explicitly clearing interrupt.

Yes, that was the idea, most useful patches will be merged, a few useful
but obscure will be kept and all others will be deleted. There will also
be a new feature to download patches from external sources when using
patch-o-matic, so if anyone wants to keep maintaining a specific patch,
we can just include a line in the sources.list.

Most effort goes into 2.6 these days, and nobody seems to have the time
to maintain old versions. The PPtP-helper in pom is missing important

Imagine if the only difference between two versions of the same file is 
a single byte inserted at the very beginning.  The uuencode would then 
be totally different between the two files.

What about using HTB and *then* using PRIO as its leaf class? You would
use HTB only to shape.
