[linux-lvm] Re: Painless upgrade to lvm2?

Alternatively, grab the lvm2 and device-mapper packages from
unstable (apt-get install lvm2 kernel-patch-device-mapper), patch your
kernel
(/usr/src/kernel-patches/all/device-mapper/linux-2.4.19-devmapper-ioctl.patch.gz)
and recompile, enabling device-mapper support; reboot (or manually
switch), and that's pretty much it.  There shouldn't be any compatibility
problems w/ existing metadata, and you should be able to switch between
lvm10 and lvm2 packages pretty painlessly.

Note that the lvm2 packages conflict w/ the lvm10 packages; if you're
working on a system that can't afford much downtime, you may want to first
grab the patch, and do all the necessary kernel stuff first.
