I dont see much talk about the hardware for this board. The current
configuration basically works but the hardware mixing does not and there
are problems with the sound sometimes with mplayer and mythtv. Was
wondering if anyone knows if there is work being done for this chipset
and if so is there anything I can do to help. My programming ability is
limited but I can help with testing and misc.
lspci output
Multimedia audio controller: VIA Technologies Inc. VT1720/24
[Envy24PT/HT] PCI Multi-Channel Audio Controller (rev 01)
Thanks

The chip doesn't support hardware mixing.

Could you elaborate the problems?
Takashi

Well when running mythfrontend the audio will periodically stop working
and the error I get is . . .
2004-10-06 04:42:25 Audio buffer overflow, audio data lost!
2004-10-06 04:42:29 Audio buffer overflow, audio data lost!
So to do audio mixing I will have to run something like esound? Is
there a list of hardware that says which chipsets do hardware mixing
because I have an abit kv8 and it does with the VIA chipset.
Thanks!

This sounds like a usual buffer over/underrun...

Or, another sound server like artsd.
Alternatively, you can use ALSA dmix plugin.

The soundcard matrix shows a bit about it.
