Oops, I didn't read your mail before committing my patch which changes
the function names instead.  Well, now it's consistent with
usbaudio.c.  :-)

Yep. It's fixed. 
Just updating my OHCI-PowerBook I detected another problem:

./cvscompile --with-cards=powermac

fails with

checking for which soundcards to compile driver for... configure: error:
Unsupported soundcard powermac

compiles completely with "./configure --with-cards=all".
also compiles with "./configure --with-cards=emu10k1,audigyls"
"make install" with emu10k1 and audigyls works fine.

kernel version 2.6.8rc2.

Everything builds fine on my SUSE 9.1 box, for a 2.6.8-rc2 SMP/HT kernel.
That includes snd-usb-usx2y is compiling, loading and sounds fine.

Tomorrow I'll try on my dreaded laptop, Mdk10.0, 2.6.8-rc2 UP kernel,
where recent snd-usb-usx2y it's known to freeze the whole system :(

BTW, it's not a SMP vs. UP issue, as I've tested today on a SMP kernel
with a very same config as of my other box, and the freezing result was
the same.

where relevant lines of lsmod output are:

ohci_hcd               21124  0
usbcore               113892  5 snd_usb_usx2y,snd_usb_lib,ohci_hcd

so, it seems that is a non-UHCI system.

Is there a definite issue with OHCI controllers?

Please note that it used to work, right before Karten's 0.7.1 patch of
July 13, or something. The other fact is that all the firmware load steps
are taken successfully, even us428control starts and works as expected.
The MIDI interface is working OK.

The main problem "only" happens exactly when one tries to open the PCM
device: the whole system freezes pretty bad, bang!. Again, when using
stock alsa-driver-1.0.5a this does not occur.

Is there anything I can do to get around this ?

Yep. The same bug occurs on my OHCI Powerbook. It has to be an OHCI problem.
A simple "aplay xxx.wav" freezes the system. Only arecord runs fine. But you
already know the story.

But I have to downgrade alsa again for now. I need some working audio at the 
moment...

Even though configure --help shows it in the list.

My driver for the Echoaudio cards works fine after the required changes.
It's not heavily tested since I completed the port half hour ago but it
seems ok.

Compiles fine with debian's kernel 2.6.7.

So far:
- PCM spdif on intel8x0 and nforce2 is working fine
- AC3 spdif on nforce2 (ALC650F) is still not working (No change wrt
  1.0.4. See bug 411 [1] for details)
- PCM spdif on emu10k1 (SBlive digital live 5.1) is severily distorted
  when playing musing. Speech is fine. (BTW, why has the spdif device
  changed from hw:0,3 to hw:0,2 ? )
