For two weeks now, compiling the ALSA from CVS, I get distorted sound
through XMMS with the ALSA plugin and also from mpg123 with OSS. Does
anybody has the same problem?

I just checked the current version, and it seems to be Ok. I didn't try
xmms, but mpg123 plays through OSS just fine. aplay with .wav and .au
files are also fine.

does the problem still appear on the latest cvs version?
if the same symptom occurs, please check the files under
/proc/asound/card0/pcm0p/sub0 directory, especially hw_params.
also, please elaborate your system (kernel, memory size, etc).

I don't see any problem on first glance. Please, could you introduce
your problem to us more deeply?

I really don't how to describe my problem. There is some noise like in a
not very well tuned radio station or as if my speakers are creaking. This
is not happening continuously. I am sorry for my English and also for the
fact that I can't describe my problem with more description.
I really appreciate your help.
Regards
Papadakos Panagiotis
P.S.
I tried to lower my values at alsamixer, but still the sound is not clear.

hmm, could this be a hardware problem? does the card work on other
os?
also, if you set up the pcm volume to 100%, then decrase it about
90%. it seems that sb live's codec is overloaded in the range over
90%.

I really don't know if it is a hardware problem because I am only using
Linux, so I can't compare... My pcm volume is 84%......
Thanks for your interest. I'll keep you informed if anything changes in
the future....
