I did some test with another pc (but with different sound card, sblive)
with older kernel and new (2.6.11 2.6.15) but it worked and it works.
I really don't know what to think.
I tried exactly as Raymond but I get no sound or only the first note
looping. (it depends on midi files I play). It seems as the virtual port
receives the first midi event and then stop working.

How do you build ALSA ? ( ./configure --with-sequencer=yes )
How do you build timidity ?
Do /proc/asound/seq exist ?
