Summary: MIDI I/O (MPU-401) works for output only, not input
Description:
I have a Sound Blaster PCI 512, and MIDI interfacing with external devices,
such as keyboards, only works for output (from the soundcard to other
devices). When I try to do input (from those devices to the soundcard) no
events get through at all.
======================================================================
----------------------------------------------------------------------
roothorick - 08-12-05 16:17
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The device works properly with input on a soundcard in another computer
(that one uses the snd-cmipci driver), so I'm positive it's functional. I
can even use aseqnet to run the input to this system. However, it's a
royal pain maintaining an entire second system just for MIDI input.

Try to load the driver with the enable_ir=1 option.

The single irq is used for all pcm and midis. So, don't run any audio
program during you measure (even better on console rather than on a
graphical desktop system to avoid beeps per PCM).
And, are you sure that the midi device produces a right MIDI byte stream?
Can it test with a loopback?

I don't see any /proc/interrupts entry specific to MIDI, only one for
"EMU10K1" whose count goes up if any MIDI program is running at all,
regardless of even whether a MIDI device is connected. Not connecting any
MIDI program and pressing keys on a connected MIDI device doesn't cause
the count to go up, however.

Check /proc/interrupts while MIDI input whether the count increases.
If not, the interrupt isn't generated properly by the midi input by any
reason.
