Summary: No sound with hda-intel ALC883
Description:
I'm getting no sound on internal speakers, headphone and line jacks on my
Acer Aspire 1652 Z, which has a HDA-Intel card (Realtek ALC883 (ALC882?)
chip). What DOES work is recording, both internal mic and external. I
tried all model options I found for ALC883 in ALSA-Configuration.txt
(3stack-dig, 6stck-dig, auto, no option).
I frequently checked the settings in alsamixer (using alsamixergui), tried
muting/unmuting IEC958, Front, Line. Always tested using aplay *.wav.
I would have tried the latest HG version, but I ran into problems getting
it installed: I did a "./hgcompile --with-cards=hda-intel" and "sudo make
install", which both went through fine -- only "cat /proc/asound/version"
still tells me I've got version 1.0.12rc1, compiled two days ago. I would
appreciate any pointers, as I'm relatively new to this whole business..

Obviously it is being worked on, as you mentioned some ALC883 changes were
recently committed.
Lack of access to hardware and documentation from vendors are big issues.

I've also got a Acer Aspire 1652Z WLMI and this problem. I can hack around
the alsa driver sources happily enough so let me know if you need me to
test patches etc. Don't really know what I would need to change to fix it,
but happy to test.

rlrevell: may I suggest that "test" models should be added to all ALC
codecs?
Also, once again, i'd rather call them "full" models and not require to
use debug flags to get them compiled in.

Similar-looking (ish) issue to be found at
https://bugtrack.alsa-project.org/alsa-bug/view.php?id=2035
Is there anything I can do to help speed fixing these along? What is it
that is actually preventing these from functioning? Or is this actually
unknown? I spent the last 4 hours staring at realtek_patch.c trying
various things from the patch on that other bug report with no luck.
I'm extremely grateful to anyone who can help on this one.

I have the same problem with Acer Aspire 1652Z WMLI on a Slackware. I'm
tryng Alesa 1.0.12rc1... but without success.... I hope that, soon or
later, someone will found a solution.... i really tryed everything... by
the why, in the future, i will no more buy a noteboock without all the
information like "lspci" and something else..... and expacially Acer......

some way or the other? i read about fixes having been committed for ALC883
in the comments to some other issue, but having installed the latest hg

Obviously it is being worked on, as you mentioned some ALC883 changes were
recently committed.
Lack of access to hardware and documentation from vendors are big issues.

Hi, I have the same problem on an ACER Aspire 1650Z (

I've try alsa 1.0.11 and the last HG (of yesterday), working actually with
it.
With the v1.0.11 the microphone was working normally (tested with
audacity), with the last HG not correctly (at begining I thought that it
wasn't working, but it does in fact, at a very low level).
I've try lots of model possibility (all ALC882/883 with position 0 at 3;
and some of ALC880) but nothing more, with everyone low micrphone level
and no sound from the laptop.

Summary: No sound with hda-intel ALC883
Description:
I'm getting no sound on internal speakers, headphone and line jacks on my
Acer Aspire 1652 Z, which has a HDA-Intel card (Realtek ALC883 (ALC882?)
chip). What DOES work is recording, both internal mic and external. I
tried all model options I found for ALC883 in ALSA-Configuration.txt
(3stack-dig, 6stck-dig, auto, no option).
I frequently checked the settings in alsamixer (using alsamixergui), tried
muting/unmuting IEC958, Front, Line. Always tested using aplay *.wav.
I would have tried the latest HG version, but I ran into problems getting
it installed: I did a "./hgcompile --with-cards=hda-intel" and "sudo make
install", which both went through fine -- only "cat /proc/asound/version"
still tells me I've got version 1.0.12rc1, compiled two days ago. I would
appreciate any pointers, as I'm relatively new to this whole business..

Hi, I have the same problem on an ACER Aspire 1650Z (

I've try alsa 1.0.11 and the last HG (of yesterday), working actually with
it.
With the v1.0.11 the microphone was working normally (tested with
audacity), with the last HG not correctly (at begining I thought that it
wasn't working, but it does in fact, at a very low level).
I've try lots of model possibility (all ALC882/883 with position 0 at 3;
and some of ALC880) but nothing more, with everyone low micrphone level
and no sound from the laptop.
Here is my actual lspci -nv for the audio:

Is it possible to make ALC883's working on GNU/Linux or I must sell my
laptop ? :/
