It wasn't the kernel upgrade, but the upgrade to alsa 1.0.11-rc2.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 picobyte - 03-04-06 14:23
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am sorry to have to report that the problem is back. I reinstalled
alsa-1.0.10 by mistake by installing packages from the Slackware-current
tree. reinstalling alsa-1.0.11-rc2 did not help. I posted the last message
because I found out that the kernel version was not related to the
problem.

Summary: via8235 no sound since kernel 2.6.13
Description:
I have no sound after a kernel upgrade. I seem to have lost it in 2.6.13.
Sound was available in 2.6.12. 2.6.14.2 didn't give sound either. The
problem is in 1.0.9b and 1.0.10. The modules are loaded as supposed
without error messages and alsamixer is set to volume.

 picobyte - 03-04-06 14:23
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am sorry to have to report that the problem is back. I reinstalled
alsa-1.0.10 by mistake by installing packages from the Slackware-current
tree. reinstalling alsa-1.0.11-rc2 did not help. I posted the last message
because I found out that the kernel version was not related to the
problem.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
 picobyte - 06-03-06 16:02
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I am afraid to have to report that it is still not working, running Alsa
1.0.11 and kernel 2.6.16.19. Also I bought another sound device: A
creative audigy platinum ex, which installs allright (the audigy device is
shown when running alsaconf) but won't work.
Can it be that the bug in via 8235 affects this device as well, or is the
not-working via 8235 chosen as a sound system rather than the Audigy? The
Audigy device seems to be the second choice of sound device: I can only
access its mixer settings by doing a "alsamixer -c 2". Is there a way to
reverse this order? Any other suggestions?
TIA

I am sorry but I am not on the computer with the problem, and it doesn't
have internet, so I am unable to post the requested files. But, I solved
the problem at last, I had to mute headphone and then it worked. While
this seems something logical, it is not so straightforward when you're
using a headphone.

I am not sure wether other problems were also bugging at first, there are
more people reporting issues possibly version related, but this did solve
it after several upgrades of alsa and kernel.

I am using another sounddevice as well now, b.t.w. : an audigy 2 platinum
ex, and thats working now as well.

Thanks for reading.
