Summary: No Sound on Acer with Intel ICH6 HDA and Realtek
ALC260
Description:
I can load the snd-hda-intel module and play a file via aplay or xmms or
play a cd without any error, but I cannot hear anything neither via the
build-in speakers nor via headphones. All volume controllers are at 70%
and unmuted, except for PCM, because there is no mute/unmute-button.

jwoithe, lobstaj, thank you both for solving this. Maybe I'll even make
the sound work for my mom tomorrow. jwoithe, i'm anticipating for a patch
adding an Acer model now. :) Now, that we have speakers working, I think
it's time to gather pci/subsystem ID strings from Acer users (I could
paste mine tomorrow, if you tell me where to look them up) and create a
true "acer" model (initially based on "test") which we could test for
unneeded controls.

Pure Magic, I have also patched the test model and now have sound on my
Aspire 1642. My notebook has subsystem ID 0x1025 0x160d. Using the test
model, the following controls made a difference.
LOUT1 adjusted the volume for all outputs
LineOut Pin Mode [LINEOUT] or {HEADPHONE] produced output through internal
speaker or headphone jack.
LINE1 Pin Mode [LINEOUT] produced output through the lineout jack.
MIC1 adjusted the volume for the internal mic and the mic jack.
MIC1 Pin Mode [mic 80pc BIAS] or [mic 50pc BIAS] enabled the microphone as
input.
PCM adjusts the volume of a wav file.
None of the other controls appeared to make a difference but I will try
again tomorrow to see if I missed anything.
