Does buildroot support building GTK+ directly? I have been told it does.
But I don't see it as a option anywhere. Am I missing something?
As a secondary question: does it build GTK-DFB?
Thanks,
mf

Look under Package selection for the target -> Graphic libraries and
applications

Yes, it does. Just select DirectFB along with GTK.

Thanks for the reply, John. Sorry if these follow up questions are
stupid, but I am a complete newbie on most of this stuff - new to Linux,
new to Linux development and therefore GTK, new to embedded development,
new to Buildroot. Lots of learning curves.
I downloaded the latest Buildroot snapshot (20080521) and looked where
you suggested. But I still don't see it. I see some of its dependencies
- pango, atk, glib2. But nowhere do I see "GTK"-anything.
Is it known by some other name as well?
Does the selected target architecture make a difference? I've selected
arm, arm926t variant. Although, I looked for it using a couple other
targets and didn't see it there either.

It's called libgtk2. I don't know where it picked up the "lib" from, but I
don't know why it was necessary for bridge to be renamed bridge-utils in
buildroot either ;o)

I appreciate your help, John.
But I must be missing. I don't see a libgtk2 option either. I don't see
any option with GTK in it.
Sorry if I am just overlooking something obvious. I have re-read the
menu options probably +20 times and I just don't see it. By now my brain
is for sure blocking it out if it is there.
I went through and turned on every option under Package selection for
the target -> Graphic libraries and applications in case it is hidden
because some dependency wasn't selected. But still no (lib)gtk option of
any kind.
I have looked for any libgtk files anywhere under buildroot and the only
files I can find are libgtk2.mk (and libgtk12.mk.) I have searched
I can find the libgtk2 directory under /package. But I can't figure out
how to turn its build on - I just don't see in the menu item.
Thanks,
mf

gtk is a graphic package, and you will find them in a submenu at the bottom.
If that is not the problem, maybe there is a dependency.
You should check the package/libgtk2/Config.in for
"depend" statement and enable all packages on which libgtk2 depends.
This will be a chain and you have to fix all dpendencies.
Best Regards
