Hi all,
I am using for this compilation BR snapshoot from 2011-03-30.
I was struggling with hald slow startup for few past days and wasn't
able to find out any answer in my favourite search engine ;). HAL
startup takes exactly 4 minutes and 10 seconds on x86 target. HAL
doesn't write out any info during startup
Maybe someone here already have ready answer - what am I missing to
start HAL quickly?

Could you run it through strace to see what's going on ?
However, notice that HAL is deprecated these days. For what usage do
you need HAL ?
I'm currently packaging udisks and all related dependencies, so that
signalisation of block device events can be propagated on D-Bus.
Regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,
Thanks for help. I could if this is necessary. If this Helps, when I
start HAL as:
# hald --verbose=yes
I get all info on console instantly with last line saying: "becoming a
demon". Then for 4 minutes nothing happens and after that Console prompt
returns.

Auto mounting USB storage (usbmount does not seem to work, and there is
no info in any log files about it)

Will it automount USB pendrives with FAT32 fs?
What time horizon do you see before udisks are usable in one of BR
releases? I mean... should I wait, or it will take long?

You can try to use udev to obtain the same result: write an sh script
that handle device mounting when called by udev.
Look here for more info on udev rules for usb automounting:
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/tip/17785.html (on the bottom of the
page there is a really simple rule)

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Udev#Auto_mounting_USB_devices (the
most useful i think)
Hope this helps.
Best Regards,
Daniele
