[Buildroot] Call For Participation: buildroot + crosstool-NG Developpers' Day

Hello All!

As was the case the two previous years, Buildroot developpers will be
meetting again for a full day, the day after ELC-E. This year however,
the developers' day extends to crosstool-NG developpers as well.

This will be the fifth Buildroot Developpers Day (two at ELC-E, and two
at FOSDEM). All previous editions were really interesting, and meeting IRL
really helped find interesting solutions to the many problems buildroot
addresses. Hopefully, this one will be as good as the previous ones, and
will be beneficial to both projects!

The meeting will take place in Prague, Czech Republic, October the 29th,
2011, the day after ELC-E 2011. The exact location is as yet unknown, but
we'll be sure to keep you informed when it is.

Here is a preliminary planning for the day (all local time):

- Morning: shared session, both projects together
  - 09:00 - 09:30
    - waking coffee
  - 09:30 - 12:00                                                                                                               
    - tentative time-line to finalise the crosstool-NG backend                                                                  
      integration in buildroot: what's in, what's left.
    - the shared problems: patchsets...
  - 12:00 - 13:00
    - lunch break

- Afternoon: separate sessions, each projects on their own;
  if needed, interaction is welcome nonetheless! :-)

  buildroot:
  - 13:00 - ..:..
    - the planning for the buildroot afternoon session will be
      sent at a later time

  crosstool-NG:
  - 13:00 - ..:..
    - state of the project
      - administrativa, ressources, code...
    - planning forward:
      - canadian rewrite, companion libraries, infrastructure...

- Evening: both projects reunited again, dinner, party! :-)

This will be an opportunity for the two communities to keep (and get) in
touch, share our experiences, know each others, and improve ourselves.

Preparing an on-line, interactive session would be quite a challenge. We
usually crash to some random place for the session (last year in Cambridge,
we ended up in a caf?), and the internet connection is not guaranteed. This
also means there could be ambiant /noise/ from other people present at that
place.

Also, the developpers' day are usually ultra-interactive, which would be
rather dificult to handle as an on-line event. It usually involves peeking
at each other's screen, doing some code, possibly napkin-drafting stuff,
cigarette-and-coffee breaks...

And we have a limited, if even existant at all, budget, where we all pay
on our own money all the stuff we need during the day: probably no beamer,
and most probably no camera, which makes it hard to record and stream any
media stream.

So I'm afraid this will be a must-be-physically-present kind of event. Of
course, I'm still open to any proposal to prepare for a really trivial
setup that will make this possible. (Speaking for the crosstool-NG side,
here, the buildroot guys may have another position.)

If you wish that some points be discussed, please post your suggestions to
the related mailing list (or both if it applies to both projects), and it's
gonna be added to the schedule.

In any case, there will be a transcript of the day posted back to the lists
afterward. For example, see the summary for the dev-day at the last ELC-E (I
will be doing the same for crosstool-NG, of course):

Unfortunately, we'll have to stick to a local (UTC+2) day-time event,
starting around 09:00, and ending around 19:00, to cope with participants
constraints (traveling back home, and such other contingencies).

Unfortunately, we were not able to find a proper place beforehand.

Some of us are now on site, so they'll be able to look around for an
adequate venue for the day. As well, I'll be on site Tuesday afternoon,
and I should have a little bit of time to help find a place.

We'll be sure to keep you informed before Friday. If you can't get your
mails once in Prague, you can try and get to us (Peter, Thomas, or me)
during the conferences.

Thanks for the update, that's all fine, I think we'll meet on wednesday
anyway.

I just wanted to check if you still plan to have the event, as I pushed
my travel back to sunday in order to have a chance to participate.

Hello All!

This is a reminder to, well, remind you about the joint crosstool-NG
and buildroot developpers' day on October the 29th, 2011 (the day after
ELC-E and LinuxCon), in Prague, Czech Republic.

If you attend these conferences (and you definitely should!), and
happen to use either project, or are just curious, you are welcome
to join and discuss and influence the future for those projects!

The agenda is not final, but you can see a preliminary list of points
that will be addressed in the previous email [1]. Also, the exact
location should be announced shortly, but expect a place where one
can order coffee! :-)
