hi there,

is there anyone (actively) working on getting Panda support in buildroot?
Google tells there has been some attempts in the past (
http://lists.busybox.net/pipermail/buildroot/2011-May/042939.html)...

I am willing to give it a try with a config like this one:

BR2_arm=y
BR2_cortex_a9=y
BR2_ROOTFS_DEVICE_CREATION_DYNAMIC_DEVTMPFS=y
BR2_TARGET_GENERIC_GETTY_PORT="ttyO2"
BR2_TARGET_ROOTFS_EXT2=y
# BR2_TARGET_ROOTFS_TAR is not set
BR2_TARGET_UBOOT=y
BR2_TARGET_UBOOT_BOARDNAME="panda"
BR2_TARGET_XLOADER=y
BR2_TARGET_XLOADER_BOARDNAME="omap4430panda"
BR2_LINUX_KERNEL=y
BR2_LINUX_KERNEL_DEFCONFIG="omap2plus"

But don't want to waste time if someone else is doing it too...

Also, while making this config, I realized that there is no support for
u-boot&SPL in buildroot, that might be a good thing to add as well in that
process..

thx

nico

Hi Nico,
I have a similar def config that I have been using for sometime now. I
have been using it for Panda and SDPs as well. I do not have the
u-boot and spl parts though. Are you planning on getting something
working with linaro / goz trees?

yeah. my goal really is to get this panda config into buildroot to make it
obvious and simple that BR has Panda support...

that's a good question. I believe we should stick to mainline trees for
kernel and uboot in the default config. my feeling is that linaro is doing
great upstreaming work on u-boot. so mainline should be fine. unless
somebody else has a different view..

definitely not. goz (note: stands for git.omapzoom.org) has very custom
uboot/xloader trees used for android development, but they are too far away
from mainline to be considered as target for inclusion in BR.

Philippe Reynes did contribute patches in the past. It took a while to
merge his x-loader patches because I took this opportunity to extend
the package infrastructure to the bootloaders build and the Linux
kernel build. And then, I never got to the point of merging the Panda
defconfig, which I anyway wouldn't have been able to test since I don't
have a Panda.

Therefore, updated patches to add Panda support are definitely welcome.

It would certainly be worthwhile. Down the road, we might also need to
work on some device tree stuff in Buildroot as well.

Thomas

Great. Let me start working on one then. I would definitely need help
on this. Will ping you as I move forward.

Hmmm the device tree stuff sounds interesting!
