Hello,
As was announced after the previous Developers Meeting, the next one
will take place on February 4th and 5th 2013 in Brussels, right after
the FOSDEM conference (http://www.fosdem.org).
I've set up a Wiki page to coordinate the organization of this meeting,
see http://elinux.org/Buildroot:DeveloperDaysFOSDEM2013.
I really recommend people living in Europe to attend the FOSDEM
conference, it's a great event with lots of interesting talks. And
it'll allow you to attend the Buildroot meeting as well!
Interested people are invited to contact me to get registered for the
meeting. Registration is free.
Also, if you are part of a company willing to sponsor the event, that
would be great, even a few hundred euros would be very nice to help pay
for the lunch or dinner expenses for the participants. Thanks for your
support!
Best regards,
Thomas

Seconded. FOSDEM is like an ants nest: very busy with very interesting
stuff all over the place. You won't be disapointed!

For your pleasure, or your penitence (pick one! ;-), I'll be attending
this year!
So: is anyone willing to share a bedroom for the WE?
Regards,
Yann E. MORIN.

I've started adding a few topics to be discused during the meeting, by
adding the latest topics that have flown on the mailing list in the past
few weeks. I've undoubtfully missed some of them!
Please review, and add to this list.
Looking forward to this moment! :-)
Regards,
Yann E. MORIN.

Thanks, looks good. I'll try to think about this and add more topics as
needed.

Me too!

Oh, goody. <pkg>_CONFIG_FIXUP is on the list :-)
Submitting, final v3 tomorrow, I promise.... just get sidetracked by
other things

I think the current state of generating initramfs could be added to that
topic list too.
I did some quick testing of buildroot (2012.08) kernel with embedded
initramfs size vs. also buildroot kernel but with hand made initramfs
inside it (both from the same sources of course)
and the results were 57 MB vs. 37 MB (xz-compressed kernel with no
compression for built-in initramfs).
Exactly same software stuff in both but different sizes because
different configuration knobs in linux .config-files and different
compression methods used.
So optimal initramfs generation (with right linux .config settings and
maybe with Gustavo's initramfs patches) with benchmark maybe
(size of output, ram taking to load/decompress and speed taking to
decompress) would be cool topic. :-)
Regards
Stefan

And both tested kernel's included 50 MB worth of firmware stuff, 60 MB
worth of modules and
about 10 MB worth of actual userspace stuff (busybox, uClibc and some
other stuff)
for total size of about 120 MB uncompressed
Regards
Stefan

Perhaps this longstanding (but minor) issue could be addressed?

Thanks for the reminder. I've added that to the list of topics to be
discussed, in
http://elinux.org/Buildroot:DeveloperDaysFOSDEM2013#Topics_for_the_discussion_day_.28Monday_2013-02-04.29.
Thanks!
