Hi All,

I am looking at making it so that buildroot can get the linux kernel
from a git repository.

Has anyone else done this before?

Any pointers on what will need doing?

If not then I'll hack away on it for a bit and see where I get to,
assuming success I'll post something here. From a cursory look it
doesn't look too bad, the biggest problem is knowing the kernel version
before obtaining the repository, for now I might just make it that the
user has to specify it but I'll see how I go.

Will

I posted a patch doing this a while ago, but I didn't pursue it and it
didn't get merged.

Super!
I needed something like that to pull from the linux-mips.org repository - -
will patch it in and give it a shot tomorrow. (against 2009.11 BR)

The patch looks great. The only thing I think could be improved is
setting BR2_LINUX26_VERSION. Need this so that BR2_PACKAGE_LINUX_KCONFIG
gets set to something sensible (default is
$(BR2_BOARD_PATH)/$(BR2_BOARD_NAME)-linux-$(BR2_LINUX26_VERSION).config).

Not sure what it would be best to set BR2_LINUX26_VERSION to, could just
be "git" although if you specify a different branch I think that might
be better

Will resubmit some patches once I'm done.

Hi,

Any news about this?

I'm interested in this feature and I would really like to see it merged.
What else needs to be done in order to achieve this goal?

Regards,
Cristi

I have a couple of patches in my tree. Once 10.05 is out I will look at
posting them to the list.
