 But Michael made it clear that it's a runtime failure, not a build failure:

"otherwise they would die during init"

 Looking at the backtrace,though, it doesn't make sense to me: the
dynamic linker does resolve into /lib/libpthread.so.0, so how will an
additional -lpthread at link time make a difference?
