I am having issues compiling gzip after the update for
qemu-system-aarch64 (defconfig, glibc):

Sounds like upstream 'build: avoid failure to build on linux aarch64' ([3], [4])?
Will try to reproduce/fix (and send a follow up patch if appropriate)...
