To: buildroot; +Cc: Shubham Chakraborty
Major features:
- New command substitution: ${ cmd; } and ${| cmd; }
- GLOBSORT variable for pathname completion sorting
- compgen can output to variable instead of stdout
- read -E option for readline completions
- Code updated to C23 standard
- Better error reporting and script detection
Changes:
- Add bash_cv_func_strchrnul_works cache variable
- Refresh patch 0001
- Remove upstreamed patch 0002
- Fixed build failure on toolchains without wide character
support (uClibc) where wint_t was used while remaining undefined.
- builtins/printf.def (Patch 0005): Fixed a type mismatch in the tescape
call when HANDLE_MULTIBYTE is disabled (passing int * instead of char *).
- lib/glob/smatch.c (Patch 0006): Fixed build failure by guarding usage of
locale_utf8locale and UTF8_SINGLEBYTE with HANDLE_MULTIBYTE.
- package/bash/bash.mk: Added bash_cv_func_strchrnul_works=yes to BASH_CONF_ENV
to prevent multiple definition errors of strchrnul in static builds against uClibc.
CHANGELOGS:
Tested Using:
- utils/test-pkg -a -p bash
- utils/test-pkg -T br-arm-basic -p bash

-Builds configured with --disable-multibyte or when the toolchain does

Hello Shubham Chakraborty, thanks for your patch.
> +Upstream: N/A
I think that marking these patches as "Upstream: N/A" might not be the
best. Since these patches fix legitimate build failures in the Bash
source code, they are relevant to the upstream maintainers. It might be
better to also submit them to the bug-bash mailing list and provide a
link to the archive, similar to what was done for patch 0002.
If you think these patches are Buildroot-specific, or will not be merged
soon to the Bash project, then I have nothing more to say, this patch
seems ready to be merged for me .
Best regards,
Gullient Dowan.

Clearly, patches against bash must be submitted upstream. We cannot
accept those patches with "Upstream: N/A".
Also, not sure why we need all those patches, if Yocto has a lot less:
https://layers.openembedded.org/layerindex/recipe/81/.
Could you rework this?
Also, Joseph was working on this version bump. Any progress, or
perhaps coordination effort?
Thanks!
Thomas
