Hey, I looked at http://planetgit.org/ site and
I hoped to find something useful but there are
only two dudes listed there. How strange nobody from
this project blogs about what he is doing.
If you keep a planet site, make it useful for
the rest of us to read, REALLY!!!!

If you write a message to a mailinglist make sure you add some value.
Your remark, I would say, is equally useless. Even so, I am not forced
to read planet git, whereas your message pops up in my inbox. You
should instead have either contacted the owner of planetgit directly,
or in some way added some value to your message (such as offering to
add more contributors, or perhaps include the urls of the feeds of
more git related blogs).

There are more people blogging about what they are doing. Me, for
example.

I do not want to keep a planet site.
And after reading your mail, I do not feel more inclined to make anything
more useful for you to read, REALLY!!!!

Your mistake is in assuming that the folks who set up the
planetgit.org site are talking to the git developers on this list;
anyone can set up a domain name, "planet<foo>.org", without
necessarily being officially tied to project <foo>.
The planetgit.org site does say that people who want to be added to
the site should contact webmaster@planetgit.org; you might want to do
the same if you're not satisified with the content on that site.
I also suspect that you might have gotten a more positive reaction if
you said something along the lines of "hey, there seems to be this
planetgit.org site which isn't tracking a lot of blogs; could some of
the git developers consider sending their rss feed to
webmaster@planetgit.org so they can track your blog entries?"
Instead, you sound like a demanding *sshole, and people generally
don't respond well to that.
Best regards,
- Ted
P.S. Now I have to decide on my own whether or not I should ask
planetgit.org to add
http://thunk.org/tytso/blog/category/computers/linux/source-code-management/git/feed
to planet git. The question is whether to reward impoliteness or not
(which is a bad thing), factored against trying to make planetgit.org
more useful (which is a good thing).

Ok, to wrap up an (imho) unnecessary discussion:
planetgit.org was announced on this ML a while back, a few people
replied, I wrote the webmaster and had my blog added (but noone else
seems to have done so). It's a shame should the domain and already setup
planet go to waste.
I'd suggest for the webmaster to simply start adding git-related blogs
until someone complains ;). Or at least start adding the sites which are
purely devoted to git, and not the personal blogs with a git-category.
People will only start adding their blog if they see some content
already there I suppose, while others simply are too lazy to write the
webmaster or dont see the point.
If someone strongly strongly objects simply adding weblogs please let me
know, but I think it might be worth a try to bring the planet to life ;)
Greetings,
Jojo

I think his Gi was not strong today, and he may be lacking some Fu in
general. At least he's got plenty of CAPS...
Or is he asking the GIs to get after us?

I see you got your share of fun during Carneval ;-)
But seriously, I think Quim has gotten his share of replies. So let's be
nice again, and give him another chance.
Ciao,

Very nicely put.
My initial reaction was "Heh, I am not affiliated with that site. Why is
this mail addressed to me?" and I was about to say something nasty back,
but reading your reply before I acted helped me avoid an embarrassment.
Thank you for always being a calm and reasoned participant in discussions
;-).
I was hoping that the planet thing to become a useful site when it was
announced, but it turns out that I actually have to agree with the
"useless" part of the subject. I look for 'git' tag in delicious these
days instead.
I think part of the reason the planet failed was that whoever runs that
planet didn't do anything other than announcing it; it might have gained
momentum if he or she did some active recruiting to prime it well before
going online.
