* [PATCH 01/11] Move split_cmdline() to alias.c

split_cmdline() is currently used for aliases only, but later it can be
useful for other builtins as well. Move it to alias.c for now,
indicating that originally it's for aliases, but we'll have it in libgit
this way.

* [PATCH 07/11] git-fmt-merge-msg: make it usable from other builtins

Move all functionality (except config and option parsing) from
cmd_fmt_merge_msg() to fmt_merge_msg(), so that other builtins can use
it without a child process.

All functions have been changed to use strbufs, and now only
cmd_fmt_merge_msg() reads directly from a file / writes anything to
stdout.

I like it too, it's one of the most unintuitive parts of the git
interface imo. I am guessing there is no "-d" switch because deletion
is involved? Then again, there is a "git branch -d/D"?

I tried to make it less of a monster while still keeping examples of
all possibilities, which is why I removed two of the nodes.

I tried to do that, but wasn't able to create a nice-looking graph,

I did not want to keep a name with something that was modified, since it
might not get the author's approval. That's why I removed it. I also

Ah, okay. There's a startup pass that goes through all of the refs (tags 
in particular), and does stuff with them, but only if they aren't filtered 
out.

It might be possible to collect all of the input, set up the filter, and

That's why I suggested --auto-rebase, which is more verbose in what
it does. Perhaps we should add it as an optional flag for --track, like

   git branch --track --auto-rebase local remote/branch

? That is a bit long though.

I don't think "--track=rebase" makes a lot of sense, since "track" is
still a boolean in my head ;)

I think I have already sent twice a patch with --graph completion. I use
bash completions quite a lot and here's my current additions to "git

This address both of my concerns: first, that for someone examining
Mechanize-based gitweb test number like 403, or 500 would be magical
number without explanation (reason phrase) other than 'Error'.

Second, that for casual / accidental gitweb developer who has to add
or modify a bit of code with die_error(...) wouldn't know which of
"magic number" to use, if the case didn't fail into described
situation.  Now it is enough to example die_error(...) in addition to
similar code...

* [PATCH] git-svn: make rebuild respect rewriteRoot option

Suppose someone fetches git-svn-ified commits from another repo and then
attempts to use 'git-svn init --rewrite-root=foo bar'. Using git svn rebase
after that will fail badly:

 * For each commit tried by working_head_info, rebuild is called indirectly.
 * rebuild will iterate over all commits and skip all of them because the
   URL does not match. Because of that no rev_map file is generated at all.
 * Thus, rebuild will run once for every commit. This takes ages.
 * In the end there still isn't any rev_map file and thus working_head_info
   fails.

Addressing this behaviour fixes an apparently not too uncommon problem with
providing git-svn mirrors of Subversion repositories. Some repositories are
accessed using different URLs depending on whether the user has push
privileges or not. In the latter case, an anonymous URL is often used that
differs from the push URL. Providing a mirror that is usable in both cases
becomes a lot more possible with this change.

Since this patch focuses on a case that is discouraged by the git-svn
manpage (use rewriteRoot even though commits already exist), a bit of
discussion might be helpful. On the up side, I think it doesn't affect any
other cases.

The specific problem situation looks like this:

% git fetch git://.../clone-of-some-svn-repo (...)
% git svn init -s --rewrite-root=<url contained in fetched commits> <url \
      we want to use>
% git svn rebase
[Boom]

This patch passes all existing git-svn tests; feel free to suggest
additional test(s) to cover this sort of situation.

I like it. I always have to tell my co-workers which side of
the colon the branch-name to delete should be on. Since they
want the remote to lose the branch, it seems logical to some
of them to make that side empty. This would make one (very
small) headache of mine go away.

Question though; does it delete the currently checked out
branch if no branch-name is given? I'd prefer if one has
to explicitly name the branch to delete.
