* [LARTC] dynamic device names?

hello, this might be a little off the list and probably only concerns the iproute2 suite.

i use tc htb with iproute2, worked fine with an uptime of ~70 days, suddenly, the device name of eth0 changes from "eth0" to
"eth0ÿÿÿÿ". the strange(?) part of this is that all the routes that used eth0 changed too, so "X via Y dev eth0ÿÿÿÿ".

since i couldnt get putty to type that particular letter (ÿ), i had to reboot so that it could reread the startup file with all the
info about interfaces.

now, have anyone seen this before, is it iproute2 related or could it be something else?
