Following problems with my ISP that have now been sorted out, I've just
uploaded the revisions to the website and installed them, so all those
announcements should now be active.
Best wishes from Riley.

Riley, the website "download" links were broken, I fixed them with a
symbolic link for now, but the actual pages are better updated...

Hi Riley & Others,
The language system is finished and the website is fully W3C compatible.
I've it running in my own server, my server sleeps when I sleep (in about
7 hours).
http://kinkrsoftware.xs4all.nl/~skinkie/elks/
and yes it got options too :)
normally you get your language, if not availible > english.
to set a language, in my case, cause I'm Dutch I get Dutchpages. If I want
to see the englishpages:
http://kinkrsoftware.xs4all.nl/~skinkie/elks/index.php?lang=en
for you guys to see the difference:
http://kinkrsoftware.xs4all.nl/~skinkie/elks/index.php?lang=nl
The FAQ section is part rewritten... with nice W3C tags als <kbd> <samp>
etc. The releases part is comming on in a few minutes.
Greetings,
Stefan de Konink

Many thanks for pointing that out. At the moment, I only have five
minutes before I need to head out to an evening class, but I'll have a
look at that when I get back later this evening.
Best wishes from Riley.

That is also very welcome.
Can you commit directly to the CVS tree? If not, let me know.
Best wishes from Riley.

Hi Stefan.

No problem, just tar the sources up and drop the result in a tarball
that I can grab from your website, then let me know where. I'll drop
them on my personal website to check I've not mangled anything in
transit, then will upload them to the CVS tree for you.
As far as using CVS is concerned, do the following:
1. Ensure that both cvs and ssh are installed on your system.
If you're using a recent RedHat distribution, both are on
the CD's, but other distributions may differ.
2. Create a new directory where you can drop the existing tree
into, and make that your current directory.
3. Issue the following command:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.elks.sf.net:/cvsroot/elks \
get elks elkscmd elksnet elksweb
When that finishes, you'll find that you have four subdirectories
under that directory with the following names:
elks elkscmd elksnet elksweb
These are the four packages that make up the ELKS system.
That's all you nee to do to get the initial copy. To update any of those
packages, just go into the relevant package root directory and type the
command...
cvs update -d
...which has to be done separately for each package.
Best wishes from Riley.

In theory, yes - but for some reason, they don't always apply in full.
Best wishes from Riley.

Hi Stefan.
> I made some major changes, how is my version serperated from the old

Unless you tell it otherwise, the CVS system keeps all files submitted
to it, and ignores all files not previously submitted to it. The CVS
commands to add and remove files only work in the current directory, and
don't accept paths to files in other directories, so you have to cd into
each directory in turn to make your changes. The other thing to remember
about CVS is that once a directory has been created, it's nigh on
impossible to get rid of it, so it's a good idea to keep the existing
directory structure in place.
Here's the procedure you need to follow:
1. Fetch a clean CVS tree into a new directory with something
along the lines of the following commands...
mkdir ~/public_html
cd ~/public_html
export CVSHOME=:pserver:anonymous@cvs.elks.sf.net:/cvsroot/elks
cvs get elksweb
mv elksweb elks
cd elks
...which (assuming you're using a Linux based system with a web
server installed) will duplicate the ELKS website on your personal
website as ~/elks/ and below.
2. For each ${FILE} in that tree that you no longer want, run the
following commands:
D=`dirname "./${FILE}"`
F=`basename "./${FILE}"`
( cd "${D}" && rm -f "${F}" && cvs remove "${F}" )
3. For each ${DIR} in that tree that you no longer want, sorry but
you're stuck with it.
4. For each new ${DIR} that you wish to add to that tree, first think
hard and ensure that you really need it, because of (3) above. If
you do, run the following commands:
D=`dirname "$./{DIR}"`
F=`basename "./${DIR}"`
( cd "${D}" && mkdir "${F}" && cvs add "${F}" )
5. For each new ${FILE} that you wish to add to that tree, run the
following commands:
OLD=`echo ${PATH-TO-FILE-TO-ADD}`
NEW=`echo ${PATH-WHERE-TO-ADD-FILE}`
D=`dirname "./${NEW}"`
F=`basename "./${NEW}"`
( cp -i "${OLD}" "${NEW}" && cd "${D}" && cvs add "${F}" )
6. Commit the changes to the CVS tree with the following command:
cvs commit -m 'Revised ELKS website.'
Hope that helps.
Best wishes from Riley.
