Check your /bin directory. There should be an init
program and a shell. If there is a shell, make sure
it's the same on as the one listed in /etc/passwd.

Hi,
I am trying to install elks on a Toshiba T3100 laptop (it is a 286
with 640k RAM and a small hard drive) in order to turn it into a dumb
terminal for my "real" linux box.
However, I can't manage to make it work, I always get the same error
at the root disk time : 'kernel panic : no init or sh found'.
I tried several sources (latest images, cvs...) an I compiled the
kernel with many different options, but it never worked.
Did anybody already try to run elks on this kind of computer ?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Julien
