ELKS sources - just how can the latest version be obtained?

Folks,
I've been trawling through the mailing list archives and I've seen the 
various messages indicating the on-again off-again nature of the cvs 
server. I've tried all the suggested cvs checkout commands and all I get 
is "Connection timed out". In addition, any attempt to access Jodys www 
server directly, results in a "connection refused ...".
The publicly available sourceforge download tarball shows timestamps of 
files dating back to 1997 when I unpack it, and I can see from the 
mailing list archives that there have been patches since then.
After weeks of sporadic attempts to get my hands on contemporary sources 
I'm forced to appeal to you all - does someone have a tarball that I can 
download to evaluate?

are you using cvs from the command line or -say- from emacs?  if you're
using from an environment which could hide cvs requests (like "please
insert your password") you may want to make sure that these requests
are not issued at all.  you can achieve this in (more than) two ways
(but I give you the two I see), depending on your situation:

1) you're using the pserver cvs server and the anonymous user
in this case you need to 'login' before you can 'get'

2) you're using your own sourceforge account
in this case make sure you have generated a private/public key pair and
put the the public part on sourceforge.  also, did you set CVS_RSH?

as far as I can recall, in the above situations you get a Connection
timed out error, but I'm not 100% sure.

mailed a link to your private email address.
it's just a dump of my CVS local copy.  updated to a few weeks ago.
please be patient, my connection is quite slow.

strange...  tried exactly the same from my computer at work and a mac at
home (copy & paste from your message to an xterm) and both log in then
get the whole tree without problems...  the IP address you see matches
what I see here...  I would think about a lower level network problem...
have you got an account really somewhere else?
